Good gravy! I'm still all tingly from my little incident from a few moments ago. This 'person' in a Honda Civic decided to stop at a yellow light at the bottom of a very long steep hill!!! By the time I stopped (I might have laid some tire...I'll have to check later) and looked up the light was still yellow!!! I honked at the guy and he turned around like he was appalled at the fact that someone honked at him! Eeeek! I just wanted to vent I guess and regain a normal heart rate. Thanks for listening! Oh, by the way my Cooper was solid!

Phew....

Very! When I got to work I thanked my car and apologized for the 'other guy'.

You were going 60mph, downhill, approaching a yellow light, wich means prepare to stop, and some was already stopped in front of you? Hmmm... I wonder who's falt that would have been in case of impact?

The light had just turned yellow...any normal person would have just gone through but not my friend in the Honda!!! When a light just turns yellow are you supposed to come to a screaching hault? Hum?

I'm pretty sure in any case if you hit another car it's your fault...

Hey, I didn't understand the situation.

I thought you were following the Honda down the hill and he stopped for the yellow
light and you had to lock it up to keep from hitting him.

I was behind him but not tailgaiting or anything. The light just turned yellow and he hit the brakes and I was soon to follow...

Someone else has to have this happen to them before!

>> No your not supposed to come to a screeching halt. The way I read it, I understood that you may have been going too fast too close. But you made clear what happened. The most important thing is that you weren't hurt, or your Mini.

Btw, you are supposed to stop on yellow. If he could stop then you were too close and/or going too fast.

You're not suppose to stop at a yellow, it depends how far you are from the intersection. If you were suppose to stop at a yellow, like you do at a red, then lots of people would be getting in accidents or would be getting tickets.

I had to really nail the brakes in the Cooper on a curve at about 80. My stupidity

Look, don't get me started. You are supposed to stop when a light turns yellow, if you can reasonably do so. I bet you are one those people who believe that yellow means speed up! Just like indicators are not necessary when you think no one is looking (or are optional equipment). Just like fog lamps are day-time running lights. Just like it's correct to cut the corner when turning left (in US, right in UK) on to a side street. Question, do you know how to make a slow moving Massachusetts driver speed up? Answer, Just try passing them. And, to those who are proud of getting speeding tickets for travelling at 15 mph over the limit in 30 mph zones, there are reasons for 30 mph zones, safety. Around here towns are reducing speed limits because people continually abuse what were reasonable speed limits of 30, 35 and 40 mph, now they are 25 and 30. I'm not talking about high speed roads here, just local and residential ones.

THATS what I meant! If you brake right when it turns yellow and right there by the intersection you'll cause accidents. And don't "bet Im one of those people" and give me a bunch of crap that other a holes do ok. I've never got a speeding ticket or been in an accident, theres lots of crazy drivers out there and I try not to be one of them.

Well I grew up in the UK where the yellow light is only on for maybe 2 seconds. Then I moved to florida. And at first I found myself waiting at yellow lights for maybe 5-6 seconds after I stopped. Now I have learned to blast through yellows unless I've seen them on for a while or risk being rear ended.

I'm an advocate of traffic light cameras. Sorry but there you go. I've seen them work in the UK and have been caught by them when I was cocky enough to 'chance it' Guess what, 1 fine slowed me down and made me behave at intersections.

If you don't think red light cameras are good and you should be allowed to run reds, I'm sure youll be kind enough to explain why your time is more important than all the folks who are sat with a green waiting for you to clear the junction. Why I should be worried about getting hit when I am first at a juntion and get the green, Oh and explain it to the biker I saw knocked off his bike after going when he got a green only to be side swiped by a car that had gone trough WAY after red.

Sorry PET PEEVE. Red light running is really bad in Florida!
(Ask about the last MINI meet!)

NB.
We had a FHP escort for that!

Pebble,
I'm also a red-light camera supporter.
(Anyone who's not, should move to Iraq )
(IT WAS A JOKE!!!)

Here in MN we have these enormous land-whales driving around,
and a recent study by someone or another showed MN drivers we
the "most distracted" drivers in the country.

I'm not at all in favor of having my family get T-boned by a giant
vehicle because "mom" thought you could run yellow/red lights.
