Weight of Xenon Headlights?

I searched, but couldn't find whether the Xenon headlights weigh more than the standard headlights. Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

There comes a point, where weight savings either come from a driver's diet, or compensated by driver's skill.

Xenon lights I would imagine weigh more because of the ballasts associated with them, but honestly, you're going to save more weight by wearing less clothing and removing your socks... lol. it's like the M3 CSL, they made the shift boot out of microfiber to save 5 oz or something... drive with no shoes! There you saved 20x the weight !!!

weight saving is weight savings, but i agree, dont let the xenons weight bother you, plus id imagine most of the added weight is through the likes of the headlight washer system
also if performance is a amjor goal of your think o fit this way, the added vision provided by the xenons may affect the drivers performance in a greater way than the weight savings provided by the nonxenons

let me say though i have the halogens, and there fine, but ive always kind of wished id had the xenons

Thanks, guys. I honestly have 8% bodyfat and prefer not to lose anymore bodyweight, if I can help it. As far as driving skills, I've taken driving courses in the past and plan on taking another one once the MCS arrives.

What do you think the weight saving will be if I forego the Xenon and drive in my underwear?

I dunno....but I'd rather drive in my drawers than give up my xenon headlights. Just a side-effect of poor eyesight, I guess.

the xenons do weigh more. I thought I read on mini2 that it was like 16 pounds more than the halogens but that seems like a little too much. Apparently thats why they didn't put them on the GP, but it probably more of a cost-savings than weight issue.

no i would assume with the GP its a weight issue, i really dont think people would have snubbed the 500 bucks more it probably would have cost with xenons.

as i stated before im betting the added weight is from the leveling headlight feature in the zenons, and the washer jets. personally im a little surprised MINI, and or JCW didnt develop a xenon that had a fixed position, and no washer units (but it seems all cars with xenons have washer units, is this a law required for xenons, like how in england all cars need the washer jets, or do xenons leave like a residue behind that somehow gets out of the headlight casing, and on to the surface of the headlights, and needs to be washed off from time to time)

There is a slight weight penalty for having xenons... Just empty the washer fluid and its not much more. I wouldn't give up the performance of the xenons for the weight issue..
Just take a dump before a race and problem solved.

The washer is not required by law, at least in the USA. On BMW's, xenons don't have washers. The only BMW's with washers are the ones with the Cold Weather Pkg.

The leveling however IS required by law in the USA. Some cars, like the WRX-STi have a little wheel on the dash that allows the driver to adjust the vertical aim; whereas most xenon cars in the USA do the leveling automatically.

I think that MINI decided to make only 4 types of headlights. Halogen and Xenon(with washers) with versions for left hand drive and right hand drive. The BMW's have the washers mounted on the bumper or below the headlights, so they too have only 4 headlight variations.

They definitely weigh more (there is a different strut required if you add the Aux driving lights and you have the Xenons) though I don't know how much. Certainly not a meaningful amount in any sense.
Do entertain the peanut gallery with the nature of your request!

Without the Xenons, you may just soil those underwear when you see the deer in the proverbial headlights - too late. The Xenons have saved my **** many times just this year alone. Also had a black bear pass in front of me a week ago that was well lit by those babies. GO for the Xenons for safety if nothing else. They look fantastic too. Little flying saucers in the enclosures.
