I don't see the need for 6 moderators for one forum. Can someone explain the need?

Most of them have lives and can't be here 24/7.

More moderators = more coverage.

Who cares? Their board, their rulez.

Prime example why we need moderators

when someone posts meaningless stuff all over the place, not just in fluff threads.
It's one thing to bring a thread back, but to post emptyness to all threads on all forums is a nuissance to all. The pulse won't work, and threads jump all over in the listings.

Let me take this opportunity to thank all moderators for their work and time!

My 2c

Thanks moderators! I don't know how hard the work is, but thanks for making the site what it is.

You want to see what happens without moderators? Go take a look at the Roadfly MINI Forum in "The Lounge". Link is at the bottom. If your not familiar with their forum it is a little difficult to figure out.

Start with that one picture then read up the page at all the messy name calling and childish behavior that ensued. If it weren't all so serious to those people it would be quite funny. With no moderator to enforce posting rules, things can get very ugly in a hurry.

BTW, I don't have a MINI yet, but will place my order as soon as I find a new job. Any one hiring a laid off telecom tech in Atlanta area?

Because the moderation of these boards is done on a volunteer basis, by devoted MINIacs who want to help provide a constructive and entertaining environment for like-minded folks. They have other lives outside of MCO, and by having several it provides more resources to help manage the forums so that we enjoy them enough to keep coming back. And perhaps they COULD do it with 3 or 4. But the fact is that they have earned the seniority, trust and respect to allow them the ability to assist in the management of the forums.

My hat goes off to the moderators, and to Mark, for all that they do to provide MCO to us. Thank you everyone.

Greetings All! Just thought I'd drop in & say hi!

I am a moderator here on MCO! MiniSail pretty much got the idea of our job on the forums here! Basically what the moderators do is help monitor the boards & keep their eyes open for controversal threads which may offend people, we watch people who like to post empty threads to boost the number of their posts... Things of that nature! We basically try to make sure that everyone has a good time, and nobody tries to mess it up for anyone.

The reason why there are so many moderators is because, as mentioned, not everyone can be online all the time. So the more moderators there are across the U.S., the more "coverage" so to speak!

Also, Mini Talk (46769) and off topic (17760) are the two most used sections of the forums... Making it more difficult for only 2 or 3 people to read all these threads. You'll notice that those two areas of the forums have the most moderation.

Anyway, to sum it up we just work behind the scenes to keep things in line & make sure everyone has fun, but the forums don't get abused! Hope that clears things up for you! If you have any further questions about the forums, feel free to contact me or any of the other moderators VIA e-mail!

Happy Motoring!

Cheers!
Dave
