My '05 with 28k trade in get new one?

Opinions needed! My 05 MCS has 28,000 miles on it, do I keep it, or trade it in / sell it for an '06 with zero miles on it for sake starting fresh and getting some options I want. I drive alot (obviously) for both fun and work, and now I am beginning to wonder if I should trade it in so the 3yr 36,000 miles warranty doesn't passby by early next year. So what shall I do.

P.S.
1. I would get another MCS.
2. I don't want an '07.
3. Anybody interested in my car?

Don't know that I'd want to give up a LY MCS.

Why not get the extended warranty with extended service and keep what you know is a good MINI? Your MINI is very young and you've done enough to make it your own.

It would certainly be cheaper and you'd get to keep a cool color that is no longer available.

edit: apparently great minds think alike when it comes to the discontinued LY color

If you don't mind taking a hit on (slight) depreciation to get the options that you want, a brand new start, an '06 that is the first Mini model ever to receive a "Recommended" on Consumer Report, and the last model before the mechanically-changed and "untested" '07s come out... then yes, you should trade it in.

And no, I don't want your '05, only because I have an '06 on order. But good luck with its sale; I'm sure you won't have a hard selling such a great car!

True LY is cool color to have ....most of the time. To say I am recognized most everywhere around town would be an understatement... though there is one other LY near me. How much is an extended warranty and does it matter if I bought it used?

I think you should be able to get the warranty directly from your dealership as long as the current warranty is still in effect. Used should not matter here.

I say keep it and get the extended warranty (unless you have a 2 year 30k mile lease) and come out to the CMMC meet at the car show (in Crystal Lake) this weekend.

I'm at 35,5XX miles, Pearl is 1 year old tomorrow, and yes I've got to get in this week and get some small things fixed before the warranty is out I really can't see myself driving anything else (except maybe an Exige but thats more dreaming than practicallity). MINIs are pretty easy to keep in great condition and shouldn't lead to expensive repairs anytime soon, if you think you may be at risk get the extended warranty.

Is there more logic to getting a new MINI other than the warranty, or is this more impulse?

By the way I bought it used, I'm going to look into buying an extended warranty. And yes I kinda do have the itch for a new PW or CR with the Convenient Package

The SERVICE warranty is 36K miles, but the regular warranty is 50K/4 years, right?

My understanding is 36k covers everything after that major drivetrain compinents are covered. So if I have a squeaky hatch (I do) then I should have checked before hand. I will check and report back after my next service as I've got a few things I want to have checked out anyway.

Warranty

I made a big list of stuff to fix on my car prior to 50K miles. I handed the dealer the business letter and camped out in the lobby all day. I'm glad I extended the service to 50K as well because they covered the brakes. I saved lot of $$ by being persistent.

Make sure you guys get all of the warranty service performed before the warranty expires. BTW, they will not inform you of other defective warranty items as they are doing other repair work, and this info comes from a BMW employee I know. Peace.

No,
the 4/50,000 covers everything....(Just had a bunch of stuff fixed on mine before it expired..
The 3/36,000 is for maintenance...(oil changes, etc.)

Phew thats good news, and NOT the way it was explained to me. I'm quite happy that most of the repairs I've had done under warranty were for very minor things. And I've got no problem doing oil changes, brakes, etc. on my own.

I guess I was partly at a misunderstanding bout the warranty, the service warranty ending so soon is one thing the 4yr 50,000 puts me more at ease but I still have the itch for a new one I think.

I bought mine one year ago August 5 and have 25k on it. Mine still feels just like new. I'm keeping mine at least till the 50k warranty is up. Glad to hear other people are driving more than me (though a couple months of that time it has been parked while I had a rental for work).
