I found a MCS online that I want to buy, and the dealer doesn't seem to know the full option list. Is there a way I can figure out which packages the car had from the VIN?

Call MINI USA. Unfortuantely, I've gone blank and can't remember the number, I haven't called in so long. 800-ask-mini? 888-ask-mini? Something like that. I'm sure someone will post it any minute now. But that is the quickest and easiest way to find out about the car.

 

The car was a manufacturer's buyback under the Florida Lemon law. The previous owner reported serious problems and eventually the car was bought back from them. The car started out in Florida, had one owner there, bought back, sold at auction in Georgia and ended up in California.

It shows no options beyond standard equipment.

I emailed them and received my option list within a couple of days! These guys know what customer service is! Try that with most other companys...You would be lucky to receive any reply at all!

I also run carfax on any vehicle I purchase...so far it saved me from one fiasco...and made me very comfortable with the MiNI I finally bought!

Personally I wouldn't touch a car that was bought back under a lemon law. It may not have been serious issues, but you never know and I'm just not one to take a chance. Nervous Nelly here. Good deal or bad deal, for me it would be no deal. I suppose for someone who fixed their own car it might not be an issue.

 

As a person who went through a lemon law case... do not buy one... just don't. You will have no rights if the problems return and it will be the biggest pain ever. Not 100% sure about where you live, but here there is no lemon law for used cars, the problems become yours to deal with. Mine was new and I got out but if you buy used, those rights are lost. Not having your MINI for 4 months SUCKS... trust me.

 

LEMON LAW!!! I would never touch that car. Thanks a bunch for the carfax. I think I am actually going to take a chance and put a deposit down for a 2007 Cooper S. I actually like the look of it, and from what I've read it looks like the seats will be better. That's the main beef I've had with the current mini. I couldn't get as comfortable as I'd like in the chair. The new seats in the spy shots look like they are closer to the seats I had in my old M Coupe which I loved.

this means

Germany, MINI, WR (always there), MCS, gasoline, USA car, always a 4, checksum, 2004, Oxford, and the rest is the seriel number.

 

I emailed them thru minausa.com....In fact i have had a few occasions to both email them and call them with questions,,,even their phone reps had almost all the answers!

Again they sent me my equipment list within 2 days after i sent the VIN #
