I should have avoided the curb

Well I thought I was being smart backing into the parking spot on the end of the last row...and I backed alllllll the way in. And I guess it slipped my mind that I was in a short car parked in a long space next to a long curb. So when I pulled out and turned right, I managed to put some deep gouges and scrapes in both passenger side wheels, some scuffs on the black trim under the door, and I noticed the rubber jack mount thing from underneath the car was laying on the sidewalk.

Just like the Jimmy Buffett line, I know it's my own damn fault. But it may turn out okay--I have a friend who can get me free paint and his dad is going to sand and paint all my trim glossy black, and I have a good excuse to put some of that insurance money toward 4 new aftermarket wheels instead of just 2 new S-lites.

But I hope everybody ELSE can remember to always be aware of nearby curbs.

ouch, glad you'll have a good end result, thanks for the warning as I always seek out an end spot for at least half protection.

I was parallel parking in downtown Chicago when I scuffed up one of my wheels. I nearly started crying...but instead just screamed and cursed for a few hours . Luckily, the damage is only something that I would notice .

Oh man - I've had this experience in my Audi, but avoided thus far in the MC - same deal, always wanting to be in the end spot, avoid potential for door dings, etc. - then incur curb rash on rims - takes a little practice to get that perfect one or two inches clearance. Didn't notice your location, but if you're in So. Calif. shoot me a pm and I'll give you phone number of a guy that does great curb rash repair, polish. You might check your alignment as well.

Yeah it's definitely worthy of a cry, but what the heck....I did it, I should have been more careful, might as well laugh at my stupidity.

Before last night, my only blemish on the car was my right front wheel which was SLIGHTLY curb rashed. Now the wheel is totally ruined, so I guess I killed 2 birds with 1 stone there.

Personally, I'd avoid making a comprehensive claim on your insurance for something rather small like this. Nothing raises your long term insurance rate than this type of claim.

With a friend who can hook you up with a good discount on the paint work, you are much better off handling this yourself.

A couple S-lites could be picked up really cheap around here. . .
