I was at a locksmith having them re-build a Chrysler lock tumbler (actually cheaper than new OR going to a junkyard and re-keying), and asked if thy could make me a key for the MINI - the guy took a device and "wanded" my plastic valet key. Sure enough, it beeped, and was a chipset they couldn't get for me.

I hope for you that they don't find it...You likely wouldn't

want it back if it's been stripped or even just "joy-ridden" for 3 or more weeks. Sorry for your loss and I hope it all works out.

To all who have mourned my loss with me, Thank you for your condolences for they are much appreciated!!! Well my news is to report no news!! My mini is still missing in action and I am still driving the monster pontiac G6. My insurace agent has told me that if they do not find the car by august 14 they will pay it off. I went to mini this weekend and talked to a motoring advisor about a new one, she showed me what was comming in on the boat and I put a refundable deposit on a MCSCa Hot orange with blue top. Only time will tell!! At least I do not have to be without a mini for too long!!

Sorry to hear they still haven't found your MINI. But good to hear you're probably getting a new one. Do yourself a favour and get the dealer-offered LOJACK this time!

Agreed.
Also some insurance companies offer discounts if your vehicle is equipped with a tracking device. (atleast here in Canada they do anyway.)

has anyone tried to hardwire a kill switch to the electronic fuel pump and hide it somewhere? The ignition could still be hot-wired but the car would very quickly run out of gas. (in your driveway, or parking lot)

thoughts on this?

I've actually done that to my MGB. I have a small microswitch hidden that I can quicky tap, and there's no power to the fuel pump.

Be careful doing this in a car that's fuel injected though! They don't like fuel starvation!

How about let's all remember to welcome a newbie, whether they are making a happily breathless first post about their new baby, or whether they have been devastated, and have come to us for support?

Realizing you have a problem is half the battle but three (3) full days? Just kidding. Thanks for confirming most people, posting on this site, are open minded.

attitudeoflife, sorry to hear about what happened and hope your situation turns out well. Keep us posted.
