Crap! I've never had a car stolen, but I thought it had been once (Like a moron, I parked on the wrong floor of my parking garage...), and it wasn't even a car I cared that much about... it was just so wrong on so many levels.
I feel for you. Good luck getting it back (in good condition)!

That's a good question, actually... How DOES the cheap-o plastic key disable the Immobilization feature? I always assumed that there was a computer chip in the key or something that talked to the car (I know that the key stores the VIN, mileage and lots of other data on your car), but I totally forgot about the plastic convenience key in my wallet- I've never used it. Is it purely mechanical?

? - are your neighbors doing any work on their homes - tree removal, anything?
there was a story in the dc (which paper, i'm trying to find out) about a woman who went out to her car on her way to class, only to find her car gone.
turns out that her neighbor was having a tree removed and needed the street under the tree clear of all cars. he had "supposedly" left notes on all the cars in the area, stating that on such date, if they were not moved then they would be towed for their own safety.
anyways, her car was towed.
towed to a scrap-yard.
sold to the scrap-yard.
and CRUSHED!!!!
all before she got up that morning for class.
nize®!
(they are still trying to determine who is a fault here, and when the poor girl is going to get another car.)

The thieves should be caught and roped by a mini rope, to a mini post, near a mini flag pole and shot with a minigun until their mini minds stop functioning.
My simpathy, loosing a MINI is not pleasent I hope that he/she is found quickly with no damage and returned to you.
Good luck.

I had a car stolen and it was less than months nine months old. The worst part was the waiting. I did not want to be told on day 28 that they found my car. Fortunately I reached day 30 and my insurance company cut me a check. It worked out well for me since I was able to replace the stolen car with a limited production version of the same car that was not available when I purchased the original. Sucks about the car. That would be nearly my worst nightmare. I can't imagine what that must feel like.
And it is really shocking that kids could steal my car. I assumed it was some super advanced system that kept the car from starting, but I guess it's not that great. Unless everyone really is leaving their keys in their car.
The other night I was watching "My Name is Earl" and Joy's Mama, who was pretending to be sick in a wheelchair because of her gambling problem, stole the new car that Earl's brother Randy had won so Earl could give it to Joy to make up for all the bad Christmases he gave her. She was able to because Earl left the keys in it. (Dodge Neon BTW, I love that show!) I wondered then, who leaves the keys in their car really? Do people actually do that?

Do I get bonus points for those TWO references????

In the ignition.
Me too. LoJack is going on my next MINI too. I love my MINIs too much not to. That, and I'm a pretty revengeful person. If someone is stupid enough to steal my MINI, when I find them (oh, I WILL find them), God help them....I sure won't.
