I'd buy this before I'd buy the Tesla...

Weird... it has more power than the Tesla (as I recall), but it's a bit slower to 60- won't the Tesla do 0-60 in 4.0 sec compared to the Electric Mini's 4.5 sec?

Still awfully cool, though.

I kinda like this idea...the car companies are finding themselves looking into an emptying barrel and without a way to power the cars, they will literally be "out of gas..." I'm sure that if/by the time it gets to the market most of the bugs will be worked out. Mick/ Blue

Wow i'd buy that!
A small 250cc/2 stroke engine only powers the generator when the battery gets low. So it kicks in when you are parked. Hmm i wonder how that will go over in Toronto's "No Unnecessary Idling For Long Periods Of Time" Law...

They also talk about it over at www.autoblog.com. I think the problem with the acceleration times is the weight. I'm sure it's a brick.

Here's the builder's website: http://www.pmlflightlink.com/news.html

Aw, shucks:
BMW (UK) Ltd has requested that we mention they have no involvement with this project and that such conversions invalidate warranty!

Another fine idea killed by lawyers.

I'm sure it's the battery weight killing the acceleration. Although, 0-60 in 4.5 is really nothing to sneeze at. Any faster, and you're going to be leaving vital organs in the back seat.
