South Bay MINI and Long Beach MINI are both here in L.A. and they both sell at MSRP with no additional mark-up.

I just purchased my Mini at Easy Bay Mini in Northern California (Pleasanton) at MSRP.

yup. why buy out of state when you can buy instate. Because if you buy out of state, you pay their tax, then you pay our tax diff. if their tax is lower SO you might as well save yourself the hassel.

Hell if anything, get a quote for all you want from a MINI in Cali with no Mark Up, then go to your closest MINI and see if they match, with some persvation, im sure they will match

Incorrect. You don't pay the tax until you register the car in your home state. I bought mine from Classic in Mentor Ohio, had it shipped to Michigan and it was totally painless.

We bought our second MINI from Classic too. Although I have heard that their management has changed since then, so I can't say what they are like now.

However, I can say that buying out of state (no choice since we have no dealership in Alabama) was a really fun experience. We got to take a road trip that we wouldn't have taken otherwise and got home with the MINI's engine fully broken in.

I'd say pick some dealership about 1000 miles from home and enjoy your trip!

Classic is still the place to buy!

I'm buying my 5th MINI from Classic this month, and I can report that Classic is in fine shape. Although Julie Saxa is gone, they still have Mike Kost, who handles the "internet sales". Still the place to receive excellent service and a 20% discount on parts.

The high cost of fuel has made it more difficult, but if you do a fly n drive, it's a great way to see the country and get a MINI in the same trip.

Also incorrect. Many states have a "tax equalization" scheme that was originally designed just for those who buy their cars out of state. I bought a car in Alabama when I was in the Air Force, and re-registered it in CA less than a year later. Had to pay an equallization fee.

If you are going to order one don't deal with Assael, they mark up every thing they sell and are not very helpful. You can either go to South Bay, Long Beach or Universal Mini. Universal has mark ups for cars on the lot but not for ordered vehicles. We just ordered ours there and it should be arriving at Port Hueneme on Aug 5th and hopefully to us with in that week. It was completely painless with no mark up and we got exactly what we wanted.

haha, yes I know (I used to live in Haslett, Michigan till last year ) but member, michigan has Low Tax and not too many laws regarding things like this. You will be surprised how much more laws there are for everything you do in life and going to Cali, you have to pay the difference. The reason I know? I drove my Car from Michigan to Cali and once getting things for my car in Cali, I had to pay the extra 2%

Yeah I suppose it could differ state to state. Something for the buyer to look into I guess.

Anyway I was surprised at how easy it was to buy out of state.
