I was T-Boned in my Mini

I was going through an intersection this morning and I looked both ways as I was proceeding through. As I looked to my left, I saw a Honda Accord about to slam into my driver's door at approximately 60 mph. I goosed my Mini and it was just enough to offset the impact to my rear driver's side quarter.
Wow! is that Mini a solid car. I spun around, but the tires never left the pavement. While the car is probably totalled (the axle is bent and most likely broken, and it is a certainty that the frame is bent, the visible damage is nothing to compare with the front end of the Honda.
Interestingly, although the impact was significant, no air bags deployed on either vehicle.
While I believe that divine intervention played a major part in my survival (among other things, for some odd reason I left my beloved dog at home this morning), I am completely sold on the integrity and the responsiveness of the Mini Cooper. Three cheers to BMW!

Wow

Glad to hear you made it out. Exspecailly at speeds like 60 mph. Thats incredibly fast for being T-boned. Glad you're still around!

I'd be more interested in seeing a picture of the Honda.

Glad to hear you are doing well!

I would think the airbags would have deployed in the accord considering it was a front impact :impatient Mostly at that speed.

Some pics would be nice.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts.
A family member snapped a few shots of my Mini, so I'll try to post them later this weekend -- I'm not sure we got any of the Accord, though.
You can bet I'm going to stay with Minis. I'm a real fan after this accident.
But, boy, I sure love the one I have now.

Wow, I'm so glad you're OK. How scary! That's great to hear that the MINI is so solid. Oh and thank goodness no doggie with you. What a horrible thought! :(

So I wonder too... new MINI??

Good to hear you're OK! Nice reaction to get out of the way instead of "deer in the headlights". Was the Honda insured?

Glad all is well with you and your dog wasn't with you. Losing two friends in one day would be hard.

I'm with everyone else here...PHOTOS???

Glad that you're okay. Questions...1) who had the right of way? 2) how is the other driver? You only mention yourself and even if you looked both ways, but you had a stop sign and they didn't...well it's kind of sad you don't mention the other driver...were they at fault? I'd first rather hear the whole story before I congratulate you.

Terrifictoy sorry to hear about your accident. I lost Gunner in April to a rear ender that did pick up the back of my MINI on impact. I agree and continue to tell everyone about how strongly built our MINI's are, I was hit by a Dodge RAM 4X4 going 60MPH and I was stopped. My MINI did look rough from the back but eneded up with broken transmission, both front axles, and a lot more, the insurance adjustor stopped counting when he reached $19k. Mine was devine intervention too, I should have been hurt but wasn't much and the BMW engineering with the Unibody worked like a champ.

I hope you come out well with replacing your MINI, just remember like I was told the MINI can be replaced you can't.

Scott

Glad to read you're ok . As much as I hate to read about other peoples accidents, I'm always glad to read whoever was in the MINI was ok.

Pics would be nice... morbid curiosity for me. Plus I can show friends and further convince them how safe our tiny MINs really are

Airbag Warning Light Problems
We are a law firm investigating airbag problems in MINIs. MINI owners report that their airbag warning light illuminates and that their dealership cannot fix this problem. As a consequence these owners have had to return their MINIs to dealerships multiple times to deactivate their airbag warning light. If you have any information that you think would assist us in this investigation please email arz@girardgibbs.com or call us toll free at 1-866-981-4800 and ask to speak with Abe Zuckerman. Thank you.

The Dealer says there is nothing wrong with our air bag sensor in the passenger seat, so why does it cycle ON & OFF with my wife in the seat?

Mine does the same thing! I always tell my friend whos in there "You better hope we don't crash for the next minute, otherwise you'll probably die" jokingly of course.

They all get weirded out and move the seat back.

I've noticed the same thing in my '05 MCS when my daughter is in the passenger seat. I thought her weight was fluctuating or something...

Please post what you find out.

During hard cornering the passenger's mass exerts to the sides, effectively no weight is tripping the seat cushion sensors and...
And glad the MINI held up so well. Waiting for pictures...
