My husband is having an affair . . .

with my MINI I ordered the car with the intent that she would be "MY" MINI. He didn't even test drive a MINI, and simply didn't understand why I was completely obsessed with her whilst waiting for her to arrive.

We picked her up on Wednesday night and I let him drive her down the canyon. Apparently he was unable to resist her winsome ways. He has started leaving the house on random "errands" and asking if he can take Penelope. They ride off together and I don't seem them again for a suspiciously long time. Last night I caught him gazing out the window at her with a look of equal parts admiration and . . . well. . . lust!

Help me, fellow NAMers! What shall I do? Is there any hope? Will I ever win back his heart? Will I ever see my Penelope again?

I know better to not drive UKDragon's. I'll be tempted and might become a
habit I won't soon be able to break.

Miniprof, your mistake was letting him drive it the first time.

So have you...or he...brought up the subject of a second MINI? I'd sure be curious to see how that conversation goes. I'm sure it's crossed his mind. There's lots of happy two MINI households here on NAM.

My wife calls my MINI the "Other Woman"

I call my MINI my 5th child, but they're all in college/grad school so, frankly, I can technically spend all the money I want on the MINI.

I believe that my boyfriend started to visit more often so that he could drive my mini.
in fact, i think i've only ever driven it once with him as a passenger... i see where this is going. i'm being used for my sweet ride.

Leif occasionally offers to drive... something he never did when I had my '86 Omni or my mother's '92 Saturn

I think a second MINI is in order. The present situation can only breed contempt. If you want to save your marriage, become a 2 MINI household...

Buy Another MINI

I avoided this in reverse by ENCOURAGING the wife to get her own. She was going to wait maybe until next year, but then she decided to get one this year, THANK GOD! I think she knew she wasn't going to get away with taking off all too often in my MCS. Now she has her own. She maintains everything herself and I don't have to worry about anything but my own MCS. We also have an agreement that we don't suggest accessory or modification ideas for each other's MINI. (Although she really liked the sunshade, rubber floor mats for winter and boot mat I got her for her birthday.)

Sometimes when we're going to go somewhere such as dinner after work, I'll say, "I'll meet you there!" HA! This avoids having to take one or the other MINI and also avoids the criticism of driving habits or tastes in music played. I'm sure all you spirited MINI drivers out there know what I'm talking about.

I've been accused of rubbing and carrassing the MINI more than . . . . well. At least the MINI responds to all of my controlling. My wife, well, has a mind of her own and is much harder to persuade.

Been married nearly 20 years and we've both had many different cars. Sometimes I would end up driving hers and vice-versa.

Got my Mini in Feb 06 and it now has 4K on it. Wifes been a passenger quite often and I've tried to get her to drive it. She stubbornly refuses (imagine a stubborn wife????) Says she has ridden in it enough that, if she drives it, she'll want her own. Not sure if it's that or if she's afraid she might scratch it (true I'm obsessed with keeping it perfect.)

BTW, my 17 year old daughter has no such concerns and will drive the Mini every time she has a opportunity.

Worried too

MiniProf,
I have been worried for a while that I will soon be in the same boat as you. When I first started talking about Minis my hubby would roll his eyes . Those "cute" cars, you can't be serious. When I finally convinced him that I had to order one, he was still really not interested. Since then he found NAM, and other Mini sites, and I took him to test drive one that was on a local lot. Big Mistake!! Now he is more obsessed about the Mini than I am. We are hoping to pick up our new baby next week, and he has been telling me, 'darn, it is too bad I go to work before you, guess I will get to drive the mini'. I am not sure getting him his own is really an option, so I guess I am going to have to learn to share
Good luck... and let me know if you find anything that works to seperate drooling husband and Mini.
Maryanne

Yep, you need another MINI. I ended up getting my wife a classic mini, so now she hardly ever drives mine. But I have to get permission to drive hers . In a few years I'm sure we'll be adding another MINI too, so the kids don't drive ours.
