You know reading your list makes me think that the British Wave of Synth Pop back in the 1980's would be a perfect soundtrack for motoring in a MINI. Totally logical choice!

Classical when I'm alone.. full blast (I know, I'm a geek), indie when my boyfriend is motoring with me, and lots of classic rock when the mood hits me, or if my sister or anyone else who might be annoyed by my classical selection are with me

 

Istara, I listen to classic ONLY during my commute. I need calm in that kind of traffic! Though Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture can get my speed up!

Hah, yay, I'm not alone! Actually, though, Wagner's Ride of the Valkeries is supposed to be the number 1 listened to song when people get into car accidents (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4740514/). Verdi is also high on the list, and considering that I perfer Wagner/Verdi/Maher/R.Strauss/etc. over something like Mozart.. I'm not so sure I'd consider it a means of calming me down!
