37 magnets

As a fairly new MC40 owner I'd like to ask other owners what you recommend doing with the "37" side magnets. Will keeping them on 24/7 leave a faded area when eventually taken off? Are they OK to leave on when driving in the rain? I'd just like to know what you all do with yours! I love the way they look and would like to leave them on permanently...

I like to keep mine off for a few reasons. They cost me $180 at the dealer and I would not want them stolen. I'm afraid they might blow off at high speeds. They might attract more attention from the police. I would not put them on and drive in the rain because water and dirt could get under them and scratch your doors. All the more reason to make sure that your car is clean when you put them on.I dont think they will leave a faded area. I recentely removed my decals to replace them and none of the paint arround them was faded. I do aggree with you. The car looks killer with them on! I will put them on for auto cross, track days, shows and get togethers. You could have decals made to replicate them and stick them on in place of the magnets. I hope this helps.Enjoy your MC40!!!

Hey I am a recently new mc40 owner as well but I already know part of the answer. The previous owner of mine took my magnets off so I don't have them, however there is definitely a paint color difference where they were once located on the hood. It is pretty apparent. I cant tell on the doors though.

#395 checking in from Houston TX.

I personally run the stickers but not the door magnets for fear of them being stolen. Incidentally I just had the stickers replaced under warranty because they faded/cracked badly in the Houston sun.

Has anyone found a good place to have high quality Vinyl "37" door stickers made?

For you guys that bought yours used and it was missing the commemorative #/1000 plate...Has anyone found a way to figure out which # car you have and how to order a new commemorative plate? My local dealer in Calabasas, CA wasn't much of a help.

I noticed the other day that cooperflags.com has replacement decals but no magnets. Here's the link, http://cooperflags.com/ProductDetail.cfm?ID=121

Mini of North America should be able to tell you based on your vin # what # your MC40 is. As for the plate, good luck. I doubt that extras were made. Again, I would check with Mini of NA. I have mine in a frame safely hung on my wall. I would be interested in having a duplivate to put in the car though. let me know how your search turns out.

I bought my car in the Los Angeles area but none of the dealers down there were able to help with locating the #37 door magnets or the decals. Since I moved to Seattle, the Seattle area Mini dealer in Fife has been a huge help. Their parts department went the extra mile in locating the decals and the magnets. Give them a try.
I would discourage you from buying the decals from cooper flags because they are reproduction and not the originals. They are less expensive... Your call.
Good luck!

My 2 cents.

I got the "33 EJB" decal on Saturday from Cooper Flags. It's made of top notch 3M vinyl and installed very easily. The finished product linstalled on the hood looks outstanding. As for the original oem decal that was installed...what a nightmare trying to get it off. I peeled up the edge of the decal with my finger nail and slowly pulled off bits at a time. The problem came when I got the the white lettering. It was so cracked and old that it wouldn't come up with just my finger nail. I had to go buy a heat gun and use a plastic putty knife to scrape it off. I followed that up with some bug and tar remover to get rid of all the adhesive residue. I was scared to death I was going to ruin the finish but in the end it did nothing to damage the paint. In the right light though you could see where the paint was a little brighter where the decal was. Anyway, if that's what I'm going to have to do with the OEM decal every few years, I'll stick with cooper flags vinyl instead...just my .02 cents

John

37 from cooperflags

I second the quality of cooperflags.com's stuff, I had them custom make vinyl versions of the 37 door magnets and they look great. Hopefully they will hold up over time better than the OEM hood stickers did.

Goose,

Good luck! Everytime I even think, just maybe, about swapping out my R90's, I think back to how much those baby's are in the showroom if you buy them aftermarket and I instantly go about my merry way. (They're $3200 for a set at my local dealer ) They do look nice though, I get lots of comments about them. I can see why you would be looking for a set. Good luck! Cheers,

John

MC40's from FL

The MC40 I just purchased last month in Oregon was originally an FL car with 21K miles. From what I can tell in the Autotrader ads, both cars look to be in nice condition and are in comparable condition to mine. My leather is "tight" although there is some slight scuffing on the outer driver's side bolster. With that said, the bonnet decals (especially the 40 anniversary decal) are really starting to look tired even though the car had been garaged.

Good luck and its great that you have two to select from!

Before moving on to my 06 JCW I had GREAT fridge magnets!

Other advice given was spot on.

#10 here in Clinton, MI.

I just bought it last night from the first owner. It has less than 10,600 miles on it (it was the original owner's "drive to the golf course" car). It's the MINI I've lusted for - for years; even though I've been driving my wife's '05 MCSa whenever I got the chance. This car is NEAR MINT and has everything that it originally shipped with.

I LOVE THIS CAR!

-Fred.

I bought it a month and 1/2 ago from MAG MINI/BMW. I fell in love with it the first time I drove it. By far the most fun car I have ever owned. I do not have any of the original decals.
