Gas with Ethanol, bad for injectors?

I've searched NAM for a thread on this subject, but most just talk about what grade octane to use. So if I missed something, sorry for bringing this subject up again.

I have a neighbor who took his vehicle into the Toyota dealer for service. The mechanic asked where he was buying his gas. He told him where and this particular brand of gas company is known to add 10% ethanol to all grades of gas. The mechanic told him NOT to use any gas with ethanol in that the alcohol is virtually lube-less and causes the injectors to wear out sooner that later. Ethanol dries out the injectors causing them to work harder and thus the premature wear.

I've read some posts here on NAM where owners said they have had to replace injectors because they thought it was from using lower grade gas, 89 instead of 91/93, but maybe was this due to ethanol enhanced petro? Maybe someone here on NAM has a good explanation for this and whether or not ethanol should be avoided completely.

All recently build cars should be able to handle at least 10% ethanol. I don't think is what damaged the injectors. Maybe it actually keeps them cleaner. Every gas station has 10% ethanol now. Check out this discussion on ethanol if you want some info on it.

You might check this TSB from BMW.

This is the thread in which the link to the TSB was mentioned: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...&highlight=Gas

I didn't read all the posts today, but remembered it from before. Maybe it will help answer your questions.

I recently had much drama with my car, which included replacing #1 injector... they never told me what happened to it, and I never thought to ask. I'm not saying;"aha! it MUST be the ethanol!", but that's an interesting bit of knowledge. I would, however, like for someone to tell me where in New England I can get fuel with <10% ethanol.

(for the record, nothing less than 91 has ever touched my tank.)
