GP engine upgrade for '06 JCW MCS?

Wondering if there is any rumor that there might be a chance to upgrade engine performance of a current '06 JCW MCS to match the output of the GP. No doubt it would cost an arm and a leg, and/or the answer is most likely "If you wanted a GP's horsepower, you should have bought a GP in the first place!", but one never knows- there might be a good bit of profit to be made by MINI marketing such a retro-fit.

See MotoringFile » Archive » MINI USA & MF Bring You the Answers ...go down to questions 14 and 16 (although they aren't numbered on the page).

I'm afraid we're out of luck, at least as far as OEM is concerned... I asked the same question when I first heard of the GP's increased horsepower.

Its 4 HP? Whats the point?

Get rid of the JCW exhaust, put on Webbs or a Borla Race

Bingo, at least 214 (from Webbs)... Why even think about a 4 HP gain that you would never feel? I just dont get it.

Edge, good link, its just an intercooler. Maybe M7 new intercooler would do the trick. without changing the exhaust but I think the exhaust is a much better way to go.

Which suspension? The one in the GP? I suspect it is the same JCW suspension available to us, adjusted to be appropriate for the vehicle weight.

it is the JCW suspension plus the front and rear strut bars.

for more power instead of changing the exhaust, just change the headers since they are still stock on the 06 JCW MCS, then an intercooler. That should put you over the GP.

The problem with new headers is that your really not going to see the real benefit from them without a new head (this has been discussed in several threads) but that is more in line with getting the most power for the money. Not that it wont add HP because it certainly will but with the head, they should make more.

I thought the increase was more along the the order of 7 horsepower, in US terms, as the link below says. What is the conversion between the European and US horsepower units anyway? No doubt there's a link for it...

It can be confusing. See http://motoringfile.com/2006/05/23/j...ate/#more-4879 claims 218 bhp, 214 hp, whatever that means. JCW says 210. Maybe its 8 hp maybe its 4. IF its just the intercooler, then when you get the extra power all depends upon how hot it is outside. It seems strange that they would go that way vice a more proven way to get power.
