Thats because they are not supposed to.

Sportscars are meant for the road .... Race cars are for the tracks.

But that is not their primary purpose ... thats a "recent" development ... track your toys So the race track ppl can make some money. Sports cars are meant for everyday driving enjoyment.

no. Porsche has always built their cars to be able to be driven in that manner(on the autobahn or tracks)....track days have really picked up recently, but the ability of the car to track-drive has always been there.

Of course its not the PRIMARY, purpose....but it's certainly a main purpose. The MINI's suspension can't fully be enjoyed during "everyday driving"....BMW worked in a great suspension so that you could REALLY enjoy it at an auto-x or track. It's not the primary purpose (obviously)...but that doesnt mean that it wasnt a main purpose.

If sportscars are only meant for the road, then they don't need 200 hp, do they? Yet nobody gripes about that mpg loss like they do with SUV's. That's my point.

Ahhh... in case you hadn't noticed your being told all the time what kind of vehicle you can and can't drive. There are dozens of examples from low ball to high $$$ cars that you simply can't get here due to regulations. Want an Alfa? Lancia? Radical? Series 1 Elise? Smart Cab? Clio? You think the Gov't will let you street one of these:

www.caparo-t1.com

If the government can stop me from owning a car that they consider to be unsafe, too low or not clean enough, whats stopping them from preventing you from owning a car thats not fuel efficient enough?

True enough. Its really only recently that serious amateurs have become wealthy enough to afford track cars that don't double road cars not to mention the rigs to tow them there. Recall James Dean and his infamous 550 Spyder or the various 911RS and CS versions built as recently as 1993 for the US that were purposely stripped down by the factory for club racing purposes.

>>>BTW, I just filled up yesterday. 13.554 gallons of 93 (they didn't have any 91) @ $3.099 comes out to $42.00 . But it could've been worse. I could've filled up in NY for something like $3.50~ instead. I love you New Jersey!!! <<<

I love NJ too; native. :-)
I can pay up to 25 cents less for 93 octane in NJ than here in NY. Luckily I'm only six miles from the border and we're down there all the time.
