finally cracked 31 mpg on mcs

probably 90%+ freeway miles with some a/c use. competely stock mcs with about 28k total miles.

it's basically a commute vehicle so it's not driven very hard. i usually average between 28-30 mpg so this uptick in mpg is a nice surprise granted this last tank did see a bit more freeway miles.

mpg 31.2 w/ 91 oct gas and hand calculated of course.

Nice job! I was also excited when I cracked 40 MPG on a tank for the first time in my Cooper. That was 506.1 miles on one tank! 93 octane and hand calculated

I did a trip the other day, lowered my average cruise cpntrol speed to 69-70 mph and I got 36.8 mpg. I have 2400 miles on my MCS.

Note that the posts mention HAND calculated.....The Computer must be calibrated 36.8 is not very acurate....I can get my OBC to read over 40mpg by doing 50mph in my MCS...but that is not the true milage

Sounds like I've got a challange on my hands Tomorrow I'm driving down to Las Vegas, NV from San Jose, CA: 526.28 miles. It'll be interesting to see how well my 06 MCS/JCW with 5K miles on it will handle the trip gas-wise. I'm hoping for about 30 miles a gallon.... I think it's do-able if I can control my right foot.... I'll post miles/gallon when I get back on Sunday. If I can do it with one tank of gas I'll be really happy

I've managed 35.3MPG on my MCS, accomplished it witha ton of weight in the back and doing spirited driving through GA, AL and TN. I should ease off around the city and see if I can get close to that again.

Hand calculated.

I got 37mpg (OBC) in our MCS during an all-highway trip. I've seen over 40mpg for a bit if I keep it steady around 50mph in 6th. My OBC seems to be accurate in it's calculations.

i'm a bit skeptical for anyone getting more than 33mpg. it's just hard to believe because i'm driving with no passenger or cargo and can only muster about 29-30mpg at best. this is with mostly freeway driving and very rare spirited acceleration.

how can anyone get 35+mpg with spirited driving and a ton of cargo weight unless you were driving downhill?

for those that can consistently get 32+mpg(hand calculated), please share your methods(MCS only).

First I already have 28.8k on the clock and as the miles keep going up so does the MPG slightly. Then take into account the spirited driving was on small county roads (no centerline, avg limit 45MPH) up and down hills and a few mountains. But absoultely no traffic and rarely a need to stop for more than 6 hours. No A/C, but I had the radio going, also no idle, much engine braking, only used the car brakes for the last 10ft before a stop sign. I did do a good job of managing momentum so I let physics do much of the acceleration needed only adding gas just before it was needed, but these were Dragon tight roads so the gas came in smal burst mostly. Only engine mods ALTA CAI and VGS. After install my average tank went from 20 to 28-30 (depends on how much whine I want). I think 40 is very doable, just need the chance to go for a drive with the rear empty.

Yeah, my grandmother can get 33mpg out of my S. I average more like 23 when I drive it.

The best I ever got on oner tank was 32. I routinely get 29+ but that is because I do 90% of my driving on a 28 mile commute with no stops at about 60-65 mph - pretty much ideal conditions for great economy.

I would not put a lot of faith in quoted mpg figures for ONE tank of fuel. Let's hear what people are getting on an average of three consecutive tanks.

If you guys are so concerned about mileage, you should have gone for the Cooper...

AGAIN....Just another reminder, hand calculated (or user calibrated OBC based on hand calculation) figures are the only ones that are acurate and should be posted....The computer is not accurate!

I'm not so concerned about mpg, but it sure is great to NOT be sucking up all the gas like the SUVs are in this country. The day I got 36.8 mpg, (HAND CALCULATED!), I was getting blown off the road by about every type of BIG gas sucker there was. These are the SAME people/drivers that complain about gas prices, but yet they hammer their gas peddle like gas is $2 a gallon. Oh, I too enjoy hitting the peddle every now and then, but I don't need to drive like there is no tomorrow to enjoy my MCS.

Well I can keep the MCS in the low revs during the commute and bull in the high MPG then go out on the weekend and still have ~175HP to play with, MCS is the best of both worlds IMO.

I work off the assumption that there might not be a tomorrow.

Everytime I check the accuracy of my computer, it is 10% optimistic

For me... to get best mpg:
Don't rev over 3K, don't drive over 60MPH and I get 39.8 mpg (OBC) on my trip home from MOTD for a 60 mile stretch with 3 or 4 stop lights
At 70MPH my average was 36 mpg (OBC) for 100 miles

On the flip side, revving up to 6.7K and on the gas or on the brake for 11mile stretch of the Dragon, I was getting 19 mpg (OBC)

At Rockingham Speedway, hitting 105 MPH for 20 minutes, 9 mpg (OBC)

Congratulations...the only time I've made over 31 was when my bypass valve went and I had to short shift the 1.5 hr drive to the dealer.

After reading all posts here, really make me think you all have typo of 22mpg to 32mpg, or 25mpg to 35mpg. because I have been getting 21-23mpg on my MCS only for my daily, mostly local drive.

50mph in 6th Your Mini must be geared a whole lot different than mine. My MCS would bog down so bad if I tried to be in 6th gear at only 50. 50 in my Mini is more like 5th (just barely into 5th )

Use less gas stay at a lower RPM means less HP and less torque so less fun but more economical, just need to be sure you don't start "lugging" the engine.

Have you had your ECU re-mapped to make the most of your mods? If not, this could easily be a contributor to poor mpg......along with low octane Cali gas.

No ECU for me yet. Hmmm... you just gave me good excuse to sell to my wife for the next mod.
