R50/53 Whats the current wait on a S?
Purchased a base Cooper here in California 8 months ago and put down a despoit on a fully loaded S (minus the NAV) at the same time. Even with preferential treatment from buying 2 cars from the same dealer the wait on the second car was 7 months. Keep in mind I did put off a few months as I was waiting for the Harmon Kardon sound system and auto sensing rain wipers. So I could have got it maybe a few months earlier yet I think it would have been a 2002. The Harmon Kardon system was worth the wait! Dealer was Irvine Mini.
My car was built on 1-31-03 and I just picked it up yesterday 3-7-03. Man am I stoked.

>>So whats the current wait looking like for a custom ordered?
I am also in California, and was on a 1-year waiting list here. Cancelled the order 3 months into the wait, placed my order with Mini of St Louis on 2-14, and expect to pick her up in the middle of April. It seems like the Midwest has the shortest waits, and West Coast the longest. I have also heard of short wait times in Salt Lake City, and Mini of the Hamptons has a note here on MCO that they will take an order now. Mini of St Louis says on their web site that they are taking orders now for mid-May delivery.
Good Luck
Phil

resOlve,
Sorry I gave you wrong info. Metroplex MINI is getting together next Saturday March 15th. I must be cracking due to the stress of waiting for The Shadow to arrive. Currently on it's way to Port Charles SC. Due to arrive tomorrow. Hope it arrives at Moritz by next weekend or I'll have to attend the meet in my Classic mini.
If you go to the meet look me up. My classic mini is Grey Mini Mayfair.

I've been on a wait list in Long Beach since last November. Was told I wouldn't take delivery of the MINI S until December of this year! I could pay anywhere from $2,500 fo $6,000 extra and place an order right away from most SoCal dealers but I didn't want to pay over sticker price. So I started calling around, starting with dealers on the West Coast and moving my way East. Dealers who aren't charging a premium were usually about a year out for an S, some shorter. But then I found a dealership in Texas that wasn't price gouging and was just opening, so they didn't have a wait list yet. But they they were hesitant to sell to non-Texans (found the same thing in Oregon). Then I found Brian Harris in Louisiana... no wait, no premium. My new MINI S should be ready in about a month, and the money I save more than pays for my flight there and a great road trip back home!
>>I hear the wait from NW MINI near Seattle is almost 2 years for an S. I bought mine from MINI of Hawaii. No wait, but I ended up paying about $400 extra in shipping for the pleasure. Actually, the shipping was $950 but NW MINI has a $600 markup and MINIof Hawaii does not.<<<
rob i think you are incorrect in this
though i bought my mini in universal city mini and reside in los angeles, i have gone to northwest mini, and have kept in contact with them. their wait is about 8 monhts for an MCS, and they have a 349 dollar markup fee. hope that helps
