in the words of Will Smith " now that's what I'm talking about" and again Will says, "I got to get one of these" What is in that car and how do I get it?

this statment confuses me...we have many cars just like it and some that have alot more power on this side of the pond...

275 HP is only 233 WHP...we have many of these running around...I could build that for....less than 4k...if you like not in cluding laybor ofcourse...LOL

Without TC. I was speaking in terms of the English tuners, seems like there are quite a few who do very well.

I am talking aobut NONE tc cars...230 WHP is VERY easy to achive nowa days that's what gets me so excited about these cars...making power is easy if you are willing to spend the $...and depending on the power you want it's relativly cheap

You guys are the experts so I believe ya! Thats cool. But I think the point starts to become why continue to add power and not just buy a different car with the power from the factory? 05 Elises have dropped down to the $35K range ... cheaper than a JCW/Convt. Thats just a thought.

How much would it cost / what would it take to make 200bhp (uh.. 175 wheel?) ?

heh well I know people with exhaust, intake, pulley and a good tune making 200 WHP...so....leave out the tune and you should see to 170-190 WHP depending on your basline dyno #s

nice.

HAI (or CAI?) + 15% Pulley + ECU is probably my route. <$1000 installed is my goal.

If I did go with exhaust, I'd want something NOT loud. I like a generally quiet ride (but I don't mind the HAI making the sc scream at high revs! )

it's not alot from a tune...it's that people have a "chip" confused with a tune...they are not the same....no chip can properly tune a car just by pluging it in

SpiderX has had his car "tuned" in the context you're referring to, not just a drop in product. The gains from a "tune" absolutely vary from car to car. Production engines are nowhere near blueprinted, and thus performance, and ability to perform, will vary. There's only so much you can do with ignition and fuel before you start knocking and scorching. You can tune for 13.0:1 AFR and crank the snot out of the ignition and get awesome power while smashing into the knock control, but in a high-strung boosted car, you're risking ka-blamo during extended high-load situations.

kind of what I was thinking........Tuls.... how much of a power contribution do you think is coming from the "tune"?

I have repeatedly gained 25 WHP from tuning...from stock minis to pulley cars...etc...over an over...all on a mustang dyno...so you can add minmum 10% if you are using a Dyno Jet

I am talking simple A/F ratio adjustments...not timing and everything else...this has nothing to do with boost...and if you are "smashing into the knock control" then you have know Idea how to tune....espicially cause 13:1 is not tuning for the street driving or reliability...nor anything else stated in that paragraph...

the gains I have found do not vary from car to car...only the HP ...some cars make 130 WHP stock...and I have seen as high as 168 WHP stock...then with a tune...well add 25 WHP....either way it's 25 WHP...but every car needs a different set adjusments to do it

again I am not talking about turbo assisted or turbo only minis...this is tuning for the masses not people like my self who have chosen to go extreme...doing what I have done has only helped me to properly understand how to take care of the little things...such as a good tune...I'm not bench racing

We certainly don't bench race either, and the most we have come up with at the wheels on an ECU is around 13 horsepower. Similar gains have been had from other very knowledgable tuners, such as Garret or Oliver....

Not saying it isn't possible, but you've seen our car in action, and there are few faster without a turbo, so you know I'm not blowing sunshine . I'm interested in how you got there.

Randy

My car was tuned by Josh Murray of Unichip while we drove down I-20 to the Alabama state line out of Atlanta...... Josh (a great guy) was kind enough to call me as he was doing a custom tune for a Z car near Atlanta that was to go into a magazine article......later we put it on a dyno..... Josh has done more UNichip tunes than any one... you get the idea.... 25 just seems like an amazing number.....

Absolutely Randy...I hope you understand I am not refering to you or anyone who accually is out there beating thier heads against the wall pulling 24 hr to 72 hr days...and just loving it...heh heh....unfortunately there are alot of bench racers and "internet experts" around and it has pushed me back from posting as much as I prolly would with out them confusing the community with technical gargon that has no benifit other than to make it seem like they know what is going on...

Well OK! now that that's outta the way...LOL

So far the tuning I am doing is using the ECU in combanation with an AFC...I too have not YET gotten it outta the way.....but it seems it will happen soon....YAY! so that's the secret...well...no but it's what I do

Are you hacking the ECU and what AFC are you using?
