Hot Rods with MINI headlights!
I went to the Goodguys car show in Del Mar, CA, yesterday and found not one, but two hot rods using MINI headlights!
I talked to the owner of the first car, and he likes them because the lights are bright enough for him to drive 70 or 80 mph.

Who would have thunk it!
I like the integration into the yellow rod!
Good work there.

Yeah, I saw one last year at the Turkey Run in Daytona. Looks good.

I wonder why they chose the the regular halogens over the xenon units? Perhaps because dealer charges $630 a piece.
Now Morgan needs to use them to make an updated uncross-eyed Aero 8! Like on the one-off concept show a couple of years ago.

I believe those are Xenons. They look exactly like the Xenons on my car.
Interesting to see this. Not long ago the hot setup on street rods were the ovalish lights from Mercedes.

Those look like regular halogens. The xenons look a little more like nozzles due to the self-leveling (I think).

The xenons are way too complex to use on a hot rod, the leveling system is contolled by the BC1, so it would be a nightmare to hook up and work properly.
Ive seen quite a few hot rods with mini and Benz lights, the mini in particular matches that ford very well, they look like a modern version of the '40 ford headlight!

Rodders like it simple, the xenons are (internally) a bit bulkier, and need to have the additional electronics for the auto-leveling fitted for the aiming to be proper. The lack of the headlight washer also makes the bezel lines 'cleaner', which is what the typical rodder strives for.

I've been to several cruise-ins and car shows, and have had many street rodders asking where to get a set of them. I have to say they do make the car look good...

Looks great on the yellow FoMoCo rod.
The Benz headlights were popular.

Yeah, they aren't Xenons-- they're missing the half-moon shaped water squiriters on the inner edges.
I've also seen some hot rods similar to these two, that use the Volkswagen New Beetle headlamps. The Morgan Aero 8 uses them too.

Right and the smallest circle in the light usually says xenon.
I like the use of the lights

Yep, y'all are right, those aren't Xenons. I didn't notice that there weren't any headlight washers on them.

As it is, the guy with the red car above said the MINI lights are a little difficult to work with because the box with all the components is larger than most lights (although the yellow car didn't seem to have issues).
