Performance ethanol fuel? Check this write up.

Here's a short bleeb from the website....

------
The facts are powerful.
  • Ethanol-enriched fuel can reduce pre-ignition problems (knocking/pinging).
  • Tests have concluded that ethanol does not increase corrosion, nor will it harm any seals or valves.
  • Ethanol-enriched gasoline meets all applicable vapor-pressure standards — to alleviate driving or starting problems in hot or cold weather.
  • Ethanol-enriched gasoline can tolerate water contamination to a far greater degree than gasoline alone — it absorbs moisture and helps prevent gasoline freeze-up in cold weather.
  • Today’s cars are built to run on fuel enriched with up to 10% ethanol and are warrantied for its use.
------

sounds interesting...but is it all hype or maybe its time to invest in some of these companies that produce ethanol

What it doesn’t say is how it lowers your fuel economy...

MINI isn't mentioned and BMW has said nothing from that write-up. What you may think you save, you are probably spending by your tax dollars going to subsidize the industry.

Tap anwar and this becomes a mute point!

I'd say its best use in vehicles designed to run on it alone or flexible fuel vehicles, not cut gasoline with it and run that in cars designed for petrol fuel.

EDIT - restated based on re-read of article

Remember that you are running on a percentage of gas (not 100%).. it may lower you MPG but it will increase fuel economy, since you are running on less gas.

lol, that is funny of course the ethanol is fuel too, and it increases the cost of the gasoline

No....It is an energy equation. Ethanol produces less energy on combustion than gasoline...thus lowering MPG, consuming more fuel....Now if you meant by economy you mean that it COSTS you less per mile than gasoline then that is very debateable. 10% ethanol does not cost 10% less. In fact, our state recently did away with the law mandating that consumers be informed when fuel contains 10% ethanol. You will find that stations will be selling "premium fuel" at premium prices but what you are really getting is 10% ethanol 92 octane fuel!

In reality you MPG will decrease 3-5% and you do not pay > 3-5% less at the pump price so from my math it costs you MORE to use ethanol

have you guys seen those new GM ads out for going yellow, by using flexy fuel cars. Well using ethanol as a fuel may seem like a good idea by relieving our reliance on foreign oil. in all it really isn't the best of ideas in the long run, more of a quick fix that can turn out bad. if we need to start intensively harvesting corn to supply the u.s. with fuel on top of the already overly intensive industrial agriculture then our environment is really going to go down the tubes. Top soil that takes centuries to build up is already in serious trouble then all the salinization due to irrigation and use of pesticides and fertilizer will increase the rate at which land becomes unusable, plus it really is no good on the rivers. currently today the U.S. doesn't have enough land to support our current way of life, if everyone in the world lived like us we would need many earths to supply us with resources. so most likely we will take advantage of another 3rd world country and its environment and rob their resources so that we can benefit. haha, thats my bleak view.
