LOL! Couldn't have said it better than this.

Why do people find it essential to swing their doors all the way open at that high of a rate of speed? Do these people swing the door to their house open so fast that it smashes into the wall?

Sorry to read about your dent.

I just think people don't respect each other anymore. several weeks ago I went to the mall to see my dentist. My apptmt was early Sat morning so I was hoping to get out before the mall nuts showed up. First I was running late so I parked on the first floor of the parking garage (1st mistake) and then proceeded to park in the 1st spot I could find (2nd mistake).

I get out around 10am and find a honking SUV on the passenger side. The occupants were already leaving and even smiled as they walked by. As I drove away, I didn't notice the mirror was ****-eyed hmmm. when I got home and looked, there was a 6 inch line where the frickin SUV door would have been if open . The nerve of some people. Fortunately, it didn't leave a permenent mark on the car... me on the otherhand... that's a different story.

I just want to carry a sledgehammer (like the comedian Gallagher) in the boot and whack the next door dinger on their hood or maybe drop a watermelon instead

I know this will sound complete juvenile, but wouldn't it have been nice to just smack her up-side her head?

Then all your "urges to kill" would have been alleviated for that moment. I'm actually surprised you didn't after she said some of those things.

I have no tolerance for those who have no respect for anyone or anyone's things other then their own.

I feel for you. People have no concept these days of how to get their car into a parking spot, that is, between the lines. Everywhere I go, people just pull in, incredibly malaligned and just proceed to leave it. What the hell? Where did everyone else learn to drive? They can barely get out of their car because there is no room to, but they are not fazed.

I too try to park way far at the periphery of parking lots, but some jackhole usually decides to park right next to me despite the surrounding 12 available spots. And I don't mean a nice looking Cayman or Mini either-- that I would welcome.

Best of luck with the body repair. Try to forget about the idiot who hit your car-- she's just ditzing along in life "going to meetings."

Feel for ya, man.

If the dent hasn't broken the paint, definitely give paintless dent repair a try before using conventional body repair and repaint options.

I hon't see how you can get a dent in a car unless some part of something was moving? (like the woman's door)

you're probably right, though, that this does not fit the "hit & run" law.

It's unfortunately true, especially in areas like DC where people consider the adjacent car to be a convenient doorstop. I will always park in the farthest corner of a lot and then right up against a curb. Fortunately, the MINI is narrow enough so that when I do this, even if someone parks next to me, there's at least 3-4 feet between the vehicles.

It does. She knowingly caused damage to another vehicle and then left the scene without leaving her information etc. I've had this discussion with my girlfriend who's an ADA in light of the fact that twice people have hit my driver side door, one witnessed, one not. The charges you could bring on the person for leaving the scene are interesting considering the damage that was actually done.

This woman is an obvious tool though. I don't care if you drive a piece of crap, a Mini or a Bentley, when my car is properly parked between the white/yellow/whatever colour they happen to be using lines then that space is sacrosanct and you keep your car the hell out of there.

Man this makes me want to scream

To think she was running late...So by dinging your door she ended up making herself even later.

But I think that you having her call her insurance on the spot was great. With this you made sure you had her correct info Good show

Quick update:
Spoke to the insurance company, they told me to get estimates.

Body shop is going to buff the offending door and paintless dent removal. The guy seemed to think it would do the trick. He was taken back at the length of the hit too. He said it was actually better this way in that there was not one hard impact point that would have definately broken the paint.

Not-so-redandwhite: This was at the Borders on Rt18 in Montrose/Fairlawn

Thanks for all the support!! Most people don't understand the time and effort that goes into keeping a car looking like new year after year.

In some places this incident would not fall under leaving the scene of an accident, because opening your door and striking another vehicle doesn't fit the requirements for a motor vehicle accident. In that case, it would fall under property damage or possibly even vandalism-also criminal acts. Either way, I would contact the police and check on filing charges. Maybe if she has to pay a fine in addition to her insurance having to fix the damage, she will think twice before doing it again.

Okay, probably not, since she didn't/couldn't think once before doing it this time.

The other thing that really infuriates me about these kinds of people(in many cases) is that she would be the first to press charges and/or try to sue you if she even thought you had damged her vehicle-but have no problem damaging someone else's car and ignoring it.

I feel for you!!
It's almost as bad as mine - last year I purchased a new Audi S/4 Advant- v8 342 HP. My wife usually drives the car, one Saturday. cars home, go to wash it.
Notices a huge right rear fender all scraped up. Asked the wife , did you know the Audi was hit? NO..OH WELL. What a response- body shop says $1000.00 to fix. This happend three months ago - left the dang thing- one year old 56k car with a messed up rear fender!!
oh, this is my first post here too
