Tow Hook

I have a MCS 2005 CVT. Was it suppose to come with the tow hook? I don't have one! Also, i only have the jack and the thing for the lugs. Was i supposed to get something else?

It should be in a styrofoam package next to your battery. That's where it was in mine. Your battery is under the floor of your boot.

The MC is different as far as location cause the battery is in the engine bay. I'not sure where to look though. You can get from your dealer for 35, MyMINI carries the OEM part for about 25 anda few other NAM vendors carry it or a simlar product. It is the same as a BMW hook so you may fine some variations out there that would still fit. I have not heard of anyone actually using it though, everyone seems to just call for a flatbed. You may find more details in the show me your tow hooks thread. I have mine and painted it orange and then protected it witha clear enamel.

Have you looked in the left-side compartment in the boot?

Or with the tool kit that sits atop your spare tire. Lift up the boot mat to check

Even if you call a flat bed, it would be best used then instead of trying to attach a chain/hook to the suspension or unibody to try & hoist the car onto the flat bed.

When the flatbed took Bettie away after I hit a deer, we both wondered why there wasn't two "hooks" to poperly secure her. The operator ended up using the front location for the hook (to get her on the bed and to secure her) and ran a strap through her R84 wheel in the back to secure the rear. I bought a "bling hook" for the front now and have the OEM hook in the boot for the rear if it is ever needed.

1- Already there when you're at the track so they don't tear your car up if you need a tow. (my reason)
and 2- Bling
There may be more reasons, it was kinda trendy a while back, but thats about all I can think of

well that makes sense for racing and all. I guess an automotive trend doesn't die until Wal-Mart starts selling plastic stick-on versions. I'll make it a point to check Wal-Mart tomorrow for plastic spinning tow-hooks.

Style. When we used to inspect cars at SCCA events the tow hook had to parallel to the road surface for easy drop in of the tow strap. When I put mine on the MINI I used a very large bit in my old bit brace to to ream away very small amounts of aluminum to get it in the right spot. Use bit of Loc-Tite as well to discourage the casual thief.

Thanks for this info..... Have had my coop for 42,000 miles, and had no idea about this, until just now. I know this is a super old post, but a "thank you" was needed.... searched the forum for something irrelevant to this, but stumbled into this. Good thing I did.

Nine years of motoring and nearly 9500 posts and you're just now locating your tow hook? You should win the gold medal for 'blasé'.

Good catch, Zip. That maybe does one of two things, either makes the whole thing even funnier or makes my lack of attention to detail very sad indeed...which in this case seems a little funny in it's own right.
