Any MINI Moms out there ?

Hi all,

I've picked up my 05 LY MCSa for six months now. As a third car in my household, my husband and daughters love it and enjoy riding it so much. My daughter's booster seats are placed neatly at the back of my MINI. When they see another MINI on the road, they will call out "MINI alert" and we'll wave.

Is there any proud MINI Moms out there ?

Not a MINI-mom but still a cute story: I just got done washing and pampering Ducky and was sitting on my front porch with a cup of tea admiring my "baby." A young man on a bicycle rode passed, shortly followed by his wife who had a baby trailer in tow on her bike. She saw the car and said "What's the name of that car?" As they rode off, I heard the toddler giggle with glee and squeal out, "Mini-Cooper! Miiniiiiiiiii Coooooooper!" Mick

I have 2 kids. 14yo son and 9yo daughter, they both love El Kabong! Whenever the whole family has to go somewhere and we ask which car they want to take the both vote for El Kabong.

Does a 17yr old count? He's getting his license soon and is just salivating at the thought of getting to drive the MINI. He has another thing coming. NO WAY. Nobody touches the Pod buddy!

We have a 15 yr old, and when we first brought the mini home, she was not impressed at all!!! After going for her first ride, she came out smiling from ear to ear , since then, she has learned to drive it , we fight over who is going to drive when ever we go anywhere , so we have come to a happy medium, she drives one way and I drive the other .
Got to love teenagers!!! I do have news for her, she is never going to drive the mini without one of us in the vehicle with her.

Not a mom, but an uncle. The only time my nephew has driven my MINI has been at autocrosses. The last time out he was faster.

Mrs. Dread is all about the MINI... In fact, the MINI won out over several other (more expensive) cars because of the back seat... She thought seriously about an A3 and even an S4 but figured two doors were plenty. A Carrera was a possibility, but Dread Pirate Tim would be enforcing the "no sippy cups and crackers" rule. And the GTI failed the "cute" test, not to mention the turbo rule -- see below.

As for the '06/'07 debate, Mrs. Dread has yet to find any turbo (lag) that doesn't drive her nuts. In her mind the go pedal means go, not "let's make a reservation to move forward at some point in the future". So, to make a long story short, Cooper S on the way. With two booster seats in back.

Now please don't bring up the color issue.

Well, there's my wife. She grabs the car every chance she gets. We use either the booster seat or a seat belt positioner. The first day we had the car my daughter (8) insisted on going to school in it with the top down, even though it was in the 30's out!

I find it much easier to load my 3 year old into the car if the top is open

Heck yea, you would be too. It's not his car to have to fix...

Hello,

I'm a mom to 3 kids 13, 11 and 9 years old. My kid's friends think I'm nuts lugging 3 kids around in a MINI, however they think the car is very cool, of course.
I just got the Checkmate and my kids noticed that they had grown (less room for them) since I had my 03 Cooper (sold in 04). The 13 year old refuses to sit in the back, due to her longer legs, she says

Now it's back to no food or drink while in the MINI... the kids are hoping I won't ban gum as well , and "please don't touch anything, and watch the paint while you get your backpack out", etc.

I'm a mom to a seven year old boy - he loves the MINI! He is a very big boy and qualifies to ride in the front seat (5'1" and 100 lbs). We have an ongoing spot the MINI contest. He's winning.

One of the funnest parts of the day is when I pick him up from school and all the little day-care kiddies are out playing - they all point and scream MINI MINI MINI. I'm sure the teacher just loves the noise level!

Mom and a Grandmother here, My Grandson goes to school and brags that his Nana has a MINI Cooper He loves it when I go fast (don't tell his mother) Just so you all know I drive safe, he only thinks we are going really fast, ( if he had any idea) I would never but my children or grandchildren in any danger. They all love my MINI.

Mom and new grandma! The girls love the car so much I've had them request that I put it in the will. Not that I'm anywhere near death! But they all know I'm keeping it forever and want to know who gets it.

I know this thread is a little dusty...

How are Mom's feeling about their MINI Mom-mobile?
What would you do different?
What does your MINI need?

i have a 19 month old who rides in a rear facing car seat in the back of my MCS. My mom, a.k.a. Grammy, has a MC that also has a seat for him. we don't live in a very busy area or do much driving, but so far it's been easy and safe. we both have one seat down, and he climbs in and out through the rear hatch.

Not a MINI Mom, but my 8 and 5 year old girls LOVE riding in it. They now say "Clap Clap MINI [insert color here], no Clapbacks!" everytime we see another one while we are out driving. The only drawback is they can see the speedo in the center and are always telling me to slow down. :-)

Which car seat do you RF your child in? I recently sold my old car and will start MINI shopping in a few months. We plan to RF our 2.5 yo. Thanks!

two boys, 4 and 7, we all love the car. When the kids were rear facing I would just put them in through the back. Got me some very strange looks in parking lots, people thinking I was stuffing the kid in the trunk.

I really need to valet and then ban crackers, but we live close to the beach, so, if it's not one thing it's the other. Eh, she's well loved and really in pretty good shape for an old gal.

oh, re seats, had the best luck with any of the Britax offerings. The Cooper's seat belts are long enough to get a really solid install on the long path when you switch to front facing too. Just be aware that because the seat belt connectors are further forward than most, that it can be tough to get a rock solid install on a short path. so... TEST before you buy, or go and check out carseats.org. they have good reviews and advice.
