Austin the MCS killed by hail!!!

This is one of the worst days of my life as my wife and I were coming home from Eureka Springs Arkansas we were caught in a freak hail storm like none I have ever seen. These were as bigger than golf ***** and within a minutes had our Austin destroyed. There was at least three inches of hail on the ground and it had completely covered the hi-way with branches and limbs that had been turned to splinters. It was so thick on the road the MINI was almost having to push itself through it. We just got Austin in Aug of 05 and we had ordered with very specific options and I really hope the insurance company doesn't try to screw us over. We'll pay the difference if we have to but I think the only way we could be made happy is to be allowed to order a new 06 exactly the same as our Austin. I sure hope this never happens to anyone else. This crap knocked off our antenna, one side maker lens, both our grills on the hood, totally destroyed the top, hood, and sides of the car. Not to mention the chrome trim. This is indeed a very sad day.

Wow, so sad. I trust no one was hurt? That's the important part. Cars can be replaced, not so easy with people.

Weather in this part of the world is scary in spring. We've had two roofs replaced in 10 years due to hail damage here in Fort Worth.

You have our condolences. Gromit was "attacked" by a rogue shingle two days ago in a similar storm in SE Missouri. All our damage was cosmetic, but it still upset me. I cannot imagine your feelings right now.

We are glad you and your wife are okay. We will be hoping that things work out with your insurance company. Keep us posted on how things are going.

Did the storm hit near your home, and if so, any damage there?

My wife is a 911 Dispatcher and we were watching the storms build in Arkansas and W Missouri tonight. A coworker of hers was close to Springfield and drove through 4" of accumulated hail on the road. We have been bracing for another round but it now looks like it may miss us.

I'll try to post some pics maybe tomorrow

It hurts whenever you look at him... Just hours before we were outside a restaurant here in Fayetteville when a crowd of about five people gathered to admire him and of course to ask me what kind of car I was in. Then "POW!" I really hope that he is replaced with a new MINI I just don't understand how he can be fixed. I sure as heck won't accept a MINI that is covered from tip to tail with body putty. No Bondo buckets please. I really don't like the idea of paying on MINI for the next four or five years that is plastered in body filler. Also, I have never heard of an entire top being replaced how is that done???? I have the car financed through BMW financial too I wonder if that affects anything? This is all very new to me. I did also already file the claim. I did that within hours of it happening... Thanks for everyone's support.

I hope you're given the chance to order a new one! But in case it doesn't work out that way, I did see article in Go MINI where a new chrome top was installed over the original one. The rain gutters were removed and the new top was glued right in place. The gutters were reinstalled and it looked factory.

Paintless

Sorry to hear.
If they don't total it look into a QUALITY paintless dent repair.

Since it hailed again last night in Benton County there will be the fly by night paintless dent guys swarming in, just use your head in selecting one.
My friends p/u got it a few years ago and he used a paintless dent repair, it turned out looking like new again without trying to match the paint.

Don't know how big your dents are or how this process works but hopefully you'll be ok.

Good Luck, Steve

I can simpathize with you. Sting went into the shop today for hail damage suffered in December. Lots of dents and a new windscreen. The shop said it would take up to 7 working days to work out all the dents, (PDR) and repaint the roof, (no PDR there because of the construction of the roof).
We just got my wife's Prius out of the shop Saturday. 3,000 in damage.
Add 4500 for the new roof to the house.

It's good to have insurance that will pay without questioning every little thing.

Sorry to hear about Austins damage.
I live in Springfield Missouri. We had hail as well, and felt lucky to have our Mini in the garage at the time, and also lucky to get just the hail & not the hail & tornado like so many people in our area did. We also heard on the radio about Eureka Springs. {have been there many times}.
I know it seems bad now, but all will be well in the end.
