Dealer-installed option pricing

Hey everybody! This is my first post here, and a very important one. I will be purchasing a MINI sometime later this year (still debating between getting one of the last '06s or an '07) and I have one big question: how much does it cost to have the dealer-installed options installed?? I stopped by my local MINI dealer and the salesperson I talked to wasn't very helpful So I thought I'd ask here. How much does it cost to have the aero kit installed? The driving lamps? If I build mine on miniusa.com with a final MSRP of $25000, what will the installation of those parts add to the price?

Thanks for your help!! I'm anxiously looking forward to motoring in the near future

Aero kit aint cheap either. The price on the website does not include installation of the kit. Nor does it include paint. Thats why I am doing the Aero grill mod for the best of both worlds. Do a search on the Aero Grill in these forums to see what I'm talking about.

My advice would be to make a list of everything you want in your Mini, including the dealer options. Then fax or email the list to several dealerships to get pricing. Until you sign, your in control, take advantage of it. By doing it via fax or email you keep the sales dept. from their high pressure BS. I've know some people on this site that were able to get their Mini below MSRP this way.

Good luck.

Call a different salesperson. Anyone who isn't helpful doesn't deserve your business.

I was quoted somewhere around $3000 for the aero kit parts, paint and install. I've heard anywhere between $2500 and $3500 from many different places.

Some things are not hard as a do it yourself. I was quoted $150 for aux input but did it myself in about 10 minutes.

definitely not cheap!

I was quoted $750.00 for the driving lights. No way. The lights are worth about $150.00 but the dealer charges about $350.00 for the lights. There are much better lights out there that cost less.

Wow, $150 for the Aux Input? I didn't think it'd be anywhere near that much to install a $40 part. Is there a DIY guide anywhere online? Thanks.

I was quoted $2500 for the aero kit and $900 for the driving lights. Nice, but no thanks.

We ordered MIB and forgot to add the factory alarm. About the time MIB got on board the ship I asked my MA and he said that we could add the alarm for the price only and not have an install fee because it would be added at the same time as all other dealer installed options would be added. When you do it this way, there is no install fees.

So technically if you haven't taken delivery, and they don't have your MINI on the premises, they will not add an install fee.

Atleast that is D&R's policy here in Indy.

If you are willing to buy your MINI from Morristown MINI in NJ they are offering Aero kits for about $800 + install. Although they are just for the cooper. I don't care for the rear bumper on the aero kit.

Most dealer charge $90-105/hour to install parts.

I am picking up my second Mini today. Part of the deal was the Aero kit. Painted and installed for $1850.00. Fairly reasonable as far as I am concerned.

Tnere are a lot of lighting options...PIAA, Alta, and Hella to name just a few. Search the forums and you'll find plenty of info on these and other aftermarket lights, particularly in the Electrical Modifications forum.

Looks like I'm going to have compromise on something, then. I can afford what I want without the install prices, but not with. I really like the looks of the aero kit, but I think I would have to give up too many other factory installed options to get it. D'oh!

You can add dealer-installed options any time you like.......so load-up on factory options that would be prohibitively expensive to add later (e.g. LSD).

Keep in mind convertibles are more labor intensive to install the alarm. But for the regular MINI, anything more then $100 in labor is a rip off.

I hate dealers that charge inflated flat rates for basic installs!

Reach behind the radio and plug it in then mount the other end and faceplate where you think it's most convenient.

Make sure to take $200 out of your right pocket and put into your left pocket....

I was quoted 2795 for Areo Kit installed but I told dealer I would only pay 2000 and He said ok. I did agree to pay 800 for driving lights which is the going rate. I do know that is a lot and I could Do ti my self but I did not want to. It is a several hour job and I did not want to mess up the Areo Kit I am paying $2,000 bucks for. If I ever need new lights I will do it myself because the wiring and holes will already be there. All the other stuff I will add myself and safe a lot of money.

For the greater NYC area you can request somethings to be installed "at the port" NJ (eg, aero kit and jcw suspension were do-able at the port). I believe a port install brought the aero price down by 300-400 or so. Seems most dealers won't tell you about this option unless specifically asked. Don't know if its available for where you are located though.

The only time I check with a dealer is right before I install whatever I am calling about myself. This never fails to convince me that if I have to buy a book, or maybe a special tool to do the job, it's still gonna be muuuuuuuch....cheaper than what the dealer quotes. It's difficult not to laugh out loud when the super-inflated price is given.

How much is that costing you? Can you specify that it's done that way when you order it?
