Plymouth Mini?????

Ok, so i'm at work and i'm telling people about this mini i just ordered and this one older guy says to me "is that a new plymouth?". I'm like, dude, they don't even make plymouths anymore! So i explain to him what it is, show him on the internet and he says "oh it's one of those itty bitty cars that I can't see in my truck, why would you want one of those?". I reply that they are fun to drive and he says "but you can't do anything with it". I tell him that I don't have anything to tow and my minivan can carry anything else I need. Then I ask him if his big *** truck is fun to drive and he says "it drives fine", no i said is it fun to drive, he says "it drives fine and his engine has so much torque it can go up hills without breaking a sweat. can that mini thing go up steep hills?"

So my question is this: do you guys run into this mentality all the time?????

Nope. Some people get it, some don't. By "it" I mean, fun, small cars. Other people really don't like cars, or driving, at all. That's who Toyota caters to. Bless them in their Priuses. I like to pass them and smile as they get smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror. :D

Don't worry, some people will be ignorant to the "small car" idea. It happens all the time. There were MANY threads about how their cars got made fun of, and such. You are definately not the only one who has fallen victim to the ignorance.

Almost nobody (well it usually feels that way) gets it, thats why you can usually find "MINI people" which it seems just about everybody here on NAM is. Here is a sympathy thread...

They critique the car the I give them a chance to sit in the passenger seat, aside from needing to keep a spare barf bag in the car they usually come around and realize I have more fun than most vette owners!

This may be a wierd comparison, but people like that are like people who refuse to use computers or cell phones, for really no good reason. They really don't know what they are missing and I feel a little bit sorry for them. Yes, there is a definate use and need for trucks, and family cars, and minivans. That is wonderful. But some people want to have a little fun and some people really don't understand that.

I have a friend convinced I drive a BMW and that a MINI is entirely impractical and I should be driving a *cough* civic *cough* *heave* *cough* But then again I get almost as good gas mileage much more comfort and about 8 times as much fun as I would have in a, well that other car, and it will last me just as long and I'm not in for service anywhere near as much. ohh and they don't like my red dash, apparently it should be blue. But I don't care if anybody gets it. I've also been told I'm too big to drive a MINI, I said if fit everything I own in the back, below the window line and had room for two comfortably in the front, it wasn't too small. I surprised one person because I listen to country and I apparently MINIs only belonged in the city. People are ignorant and naive, you learn to let it go, or at least pretend you do then rant and vent here on NAM.

My MINI is big enough to carry my biggest aquired object (my tv), without having to bring in a truck from a family member anyway (because the futon is too big to fit into a 4 door sedan) and the MINI actually carries larger object better than my Pontiac and it does it with so much more flare. It is everything I need in a car and everything I want in a car at the same time.

Hey, what is this?! A Dodge concept! Is it "mini" in size? If it is, than I hope it goes to production!

Hey davisflyer, I get it all the time. I work in an American steelmill on the Ohio/West Virgina border. Some of these guys' beer bellies are bigger than my MINI.

Just tell them what I do....."It's the RollsRoyce of tiny little cars"...."A pitbull on wheels"...."A snub-nose 38 with a steering wheel". They usually then get the idea....sometimes.

no....maybe he was thinking of the Plymouth Cricket......this was Plymouth's entry in the 'econobox' craze started by the Volkswagon Rabbit...I think the Cricket was out only for one year around 1969 and then discontinued....my friend had one...real piece of crap.....anybody else remember the Cricket?

Oh be nice. I have a Civic and love it! It's definitely not as fun as a MINI but it's still a very fun little car to drive.

And about the service... Our first scheduled maintenance is at 110,000 miles.

And I've personally seen Civics with more than 350,000 miles on the original engines.

So, don't knock em, they're fun reliable little cars. (I'm still planning on buying a MINI this summer though )

You know what that sounds like?? He has a big truck to overcompensate for other areas lacking . Yeah, whenever I explain the specs of my MINI people are like.. "LSD? Isn't that a drug or something?" . But yeah... I just tell them.. "Lets drive down some windy roads and see who eats dust".

this isn't a what-big-cargo-have-you-carried thread, but...

The Marinos got a telescope this Christmas. I had it delivered to the office (because it had identifying marks and this was a surprise). The mailroom said "Just bring you car to the loading dock." The box was 2'x2' on a side and 5' long. Boy, when I got to the dock they had such a hoot. "How ya gonna get that box in?" they laughed. I put down 1 rear seat, pushed the passenger seat way up and just slid it in and closed the bootlid. They stopped laughing.
