R50/53 They "lost" my car
MCO'ers, I need some advice. As many of us have been doing while waiting for our cars, I have been tracking daily so that I can plan my pick up. So, I generally know more than my dealer as to the status of my car, but to date that has been understandable.
Last Friday my car was released from the VPC and confirmed loaded onto carrier (truck). At this point, I'd assume that my dealer would begin to know more than me, so I put a call into them this morning.
The response I got was that yes, my car was "transported", and that the carrier shows it delivered to the dealer, but that they have no record of it being on the lot. They confirmed, and reconfirmed my VIN, but no record of the delivery.
So, they (someone) lost my car. Carrier thinks its delivered, dealer doesn't.
I've been waiting patiently, and without being very "high maintenance" to my dealer, for 8 months. They lost my car.
Now I know they may find it, but they promised to call me back ASAP, a little over 4 hrs ago. I don't want to bug them too very much, but am ready to go ballistic.
Anyone else experience this? How ballistic do I go?

I moved the tread for you.
Sit tight. I'm sure it will sort itself in a day or so. Some dealers process the inbound cars at satellite locations, so just because the car isn't on the main lot doesn't mean that it's not there and the paperwork isn't already working its way through the system to get it offically recognized as being there.
Good luck.

Hopefully it is only miscommunication. My salesperson at the dealership called and told me that my MINI had arrived at the dealership, so 3 or 4 days LATER I called to schedule my pick-up and surprise, surprise! The Sales Manager sat there on the phone with me while my car was actually just THEN being unloaded off the truck! Hang in there - it will show up.
>>Oh no RUMINI! Fellow Fallstaffer! I think it's time to go down to the lot and check VINs.

>>Or be rational and wait, but where is the fun in that? Go rescue your baby!

>>Wactuary
*** I have to agree with Wactuary! I'd just have to drive over there tonight at about 10:00pm and walk around the lot and see if I can find my car. I'm in to a little spying! You can read the VIN number on the sticker! ***

It's too bad that one of our MCO members who work at MINI (or other) dealers couldn't chime in here, as they could probably shed some light on what are more-or-less common dealer practices.
In my experience, the paperwork and cars travel at different speeds from port-of-entry to delivery to the customer. It's not at all uncommon for the car to be delivered to the dealer and to start (or not) to undergo final prep WHEN THE PAPERWORK is still in transit to the dealer. Your car can't be delivered until the paperwork gets there and gets processed, and therefore the salespeople don't really consider a car ready to be delivered until they see the paper.
In my case, the paperwork took about a week longer to arrive than the car. So, just sit tight, and in a couple of days all of this will seem like the thumb-twidling that it actually is.
