NICE, Tustin rules, i'll wave when i get mine!!! Yeah i think i got it, i just don't really need A/C at all, it makes me sick and it lowers gas mileage so it is better for me to leave it off, but i just interpreted the word "automatic" as being on all the time at the set temperature, but if you can just turn the whole thing off then thats cool.
Thanks for the help.

Another Key Trick

For those of you who are worried about their dignity, you can do the same thing by holding the metal part of the key in your other hand.

I tried this on my 06MCS and it does not work. Must only work if some special option is turned on in the ECU. Any clues?

On my 05, you have to hold the key fob next to the ignition switch, not wave it by the ignition switch.

Like Hu99 says, don't see a lot of value in it.

It may be that having the key "near" the ignition is equivalent to the key being IN the ignition. You know it will ding you if it thinks you're about to get out but forgetting the key (?).

At any rate I think it amounts to cruelty or at least mean teasing, along the lines of waving a piece of steak at a puppy and then snatching it away. Holding your key near the ignition switch without starting the car and zooming off ... No wonder the car "complains" the only way it knows how... "dingdingding! come ON let's GO!".

I don't know exactly why it's there, but I think its cool that they that they have that "key ding" feature. I tried it this morning....totally by accident; then I remembered about it being mentioned here. If it wasn't for this thread, I would have thought there was some sort of malfunction.

I wonder - will it ding for any old dingbat? In other words, will the key ding if it is placed near someone else's MINI's ignition - a MINI ignition e other than the ignition to which the key actually belongs?

I'll bite. . . I haven't tried it. . . but it might work . . . but why would I want my car to ding when I hold the key next to the ignition? Is it like a message for the really motor unskilled, "keep trying, you're getting close."

My experience with a Z4 and doing it from the door has not casued any problems inthe three years we have had it. I certainly wouldn;t do it 25 times in a row but as I said, no problem here.

Yes fold them both down . then notice the shape of the shelf , it has the two "bump" for the head rest ... the rest will become apparent .... just rests right on the the folded headrests between the from seats the folded seats ....

Have you noticed on the 2006 MCSa that when you open the doors the windows go down just a little bit then when you shut them they close all the way tight! Great feature.

Same with the MCS. I also like the auto vent feature on the key and the auto close up in the drivers door key slot.

I don't know if this has already been posted but today, as I went to put gas and I realized that if the car is locked, the gas cap cover does not open!

My MINI does this thing on the way home from work each night.....don't know if they all can do this, guess it depends on the type of street/freeway you have to use... ....but mine can go 110mph. YeeeeeHaaaaaaa!

^ to repeat the response before yours...."they all do that"

Only does it when the drivers door is open. The computer is reading the key and seeing it as 'IN' the ignition and is reminding you that the door is open and you've forgotten your lovely Mini key.

There is a little thump---thump---thump from the rear of the MINI, whenever you start up. I've found it is mostly noticeable on a cold morning.

I've been told it may have something to do with the fuel system (like the tank pressurizing, etc...).

I am not making this up...hopefully!
