I may have to leave

Okay,
2nd ticket in 3 weeks.

I don't know if I can stay around the MINI any longer.
This time I was actually soloed out of a pack of 10 on the highway.

Had to actually weave through the pack to pull me.

What the heck??? geez.

Were you in the front or middle? If you were in the front, sometimes cops just like to go for the front guys. If not, it's the price you pay for owning a MINI.

Was dead in the middle.

Then he tossed the scary "laser" device word in the conversation. Said another officer clocked me with his laser heading in the opposite direction... just not possible. Anyway long story short... I was the only interesting car in the pack, so I became the victim.

Guess it's time for that ValentineOne now.

Sorry to hear about this. But I know how the Officer picked you out of the pack. Most Officers are now be equipped with LIDAR. With Radar you can't pick out a particular car but with LIDAR you can. So I think the Officer was most likely using LIDAR and not Radar.

Edit: LIDAR is laser radar in other words.

I've had good results against laser with my K-40 system. It has front and rear radar detectors and a front mount diffuser that " confuses " laser. Confusing isn't illegal is it

State Troopers in our area us VASCAR which is like if a cop sees you blow by he presses a button when u pass a certain point, then again when you pass another point... all computerized and it can get u down to a tenth of an MPH. Kinda crazy, course the distance has to be measured to so... Personally I have been pulled over about 6 times in my short but illustrious driving career, luckily 3 of them were just some of my dad's army buddies turned cops trying to scare the crap out of me. The others: One was a verbal warning for 5 over in a school zone, another was for an undisclosed amount over the speed limit, and another was right after someone rear-ended me to tell me my rear tailight was out. When he pulled up and saw that my airbag was hanging over my steering wheel and the accident report was on my passenger seat he said "Sorry bud looks like you've have already had a bad day, just get home safely." I have never gotten a ticket which keeps my insurance fairly low, except for the accident which WASN'T my fault still raised my insurance $562 a year.

Judging by the obvious screen name, I'm guessing South Carolina.

I am from SC and I drive completely different when in my home state. Cops are very agressive with speeding and will pull you over in some areas for 1 over... been there, done that. I have so many friends in SC that have been arrested for speeding because the cops are so strict. Plus, speed traps like you wouldn't believe. There are certain small towns that everyone just knows and does 25 mph all the way through, especially on the way to Myrtle Beach... ugh.

Yes, but it only jams the LIDAR system for a few seconds. From what I've heard. I didn't read about any of the detectors/jammers I posted links to. So I could be wrong.

Here is a link to one I found just now:

I try to think of tickets as 'charitable donations' to my local/county/state police enforcement. Unfortunately it is not a tax deduction.

Anyways, I was just thinking about this, but if you think you have it bad. I had a friend that got a ticket for running a stop sign... on his bicycle around campus. The penalty was the same as a car.

Very true. The same laws apply to a person on a bicycle as they do to a car or motorcycle. Especially if you are on the street. But around a campus is kinda strange but who knows.

It's not the ticket that's so bad, it's the insurance premium hike.

Anyways go to court. Don't they have to drop it if the officer doesn't show? maybe you'll get lucky. If everyone it SC went to court they'd probably stop pulling so many people over, you'd flood the courts and have all the officers in court everyday. They'd love it. Might cost some court fees though. Oh and you could always get one those gimmicky lawyers that has lame commercials for traffic offenses and personal injury.

Yea, I think if the cop doesn't show, it gets dropped. I'd do it out of spite. On a brighter note, I just got an e-mail that says it's been a full year since my last driver's ed course.

LIDAR is one of the easiest to fight cause it's real sensitive a simple refelcetion from w/in the pack could have thrown it off, plus it had to have been calibrated w/24 hours. The following is informative about the gov traffic legal "system", helpful for everybody who read past the first post.

Most courts only require the officer to attend in a criminal matter (ie.. arrested for 125 mph in a 55 mph zone; but that was MANY years ago) and a lot of courts will accept a sworn affadavit in lieu of the arresting officer attending.

If you think there is a really good chance that the judge will take pity on you, then by all means go to court and challenge it. But remember that one of the reasons radar and other technologies are used is to remove any of the subjective influences of the citing officers. The law doesn't say "its okay to exceed the posted limit if the following reasons are met........". The laws say "Do not exceed the posted limit. All of the judges I have known (4) got really tired of lame excuses.

This is illegal in CA....it is a speed trap according to the CA Vehicle Code.

Also, in CA if you do a trial by declaration THEN the officer also does a trial by declaration and neither show up in court. If you plead not guilty and want the officer to show up with you THEN the officer must show up or loose. But, guess what, they get paid to show up because they do it during work hours.

I am going to have to take a different route. You were speeding and got caught. Yeah it sucks that it happened and how it happened, but breaking the law is breaking the law. I do not believe in laser or radar detectors because if I am speeding I am aware of it and if I get pulled over I am going to pay the fine and move on.

In California, the officers get paid overtime if they show up on their off day or if they show up after work for those working graveyard. So, either way...we pay...

Thanks for all the insight - your right speeding is speeding.

It's just the principal for me. He shoulda pulled um all. Not like the S is the weakest prey.... - so it gets caught by the lion. Anyway, I thought about it last night. I guess I just need to slow it down. Damn that 6th gear. It's just to easy to let it go and go. Just sucks that it happened twice in 3 weeks. They both got reduced to 2 pts on the spot, and that's as low as it goes in SC. I doubt very seriously it will get thrown out. I would have to get an attorney for that.

That being said, there are numerous materials that support the use of lasers, and their parameters of use. There was no possible way that what he described plausible. Yes I was speeding... but he was untruthful and inaccurate about the set-up. Not saying I know it all. But I was pretty observant. That and I was with the flow of traffic...... people butted-up right behind me. Yesterday ... same highway ... couple adhering the speed limit were killed in a situation similar to mine.

And yes it is in South Carolina. MOUNT PLEASANT POLICE.
526... do not speed there.

Anyway - Through with my RANT.

That's why I love cruize control; the first time I drove my car home from the dealer, I didn't use it and found it difficult to keep it under 80.

But I was pretty observant. That and I was with the flow of traffic...... people butted-up right behind me. Yesterday ... same highway ... couple adhering the speed limit were killed in a situation similar to mine.
That is dangerous when you get in that bunched up situation. Last time it happened to me, I was driving behind this 95 Buick, or something similar, going on the on ramp to I-10 in a light rain. Usually, I'm hitting 75 by the time I get into traffic but this car would not speed up and I got stuck behind him at around 60. About 4 cars immediately bunched behind and to the side of us and I tried to look for a way to get around him but this guy all of a sudden bumps it to 75 mph and that kept me pinned behind him with cars directly behind and to the side of me. I then noticed that his rear end was fishtailing and something didn't seem right - that is when I discovered he was driving with a one of those donut tires on his left rear end doing 75 on a wet highway. I immediately decided it was in my best interest to get as much distance from this car as I could and tried to down shift to power around him and in front of the car to my side. That was the first time I missed a gear and shoved into 3rd. I managed to clear him after getting into the right gear. All I could think was I wished there was a FHP car somewhere close by to get this guy off the road.
