Release it, open it, and then drop it from a foot or so.

Has it ever closed? Why won't it now? Make sure nothing is under there - tool, clothing, rodent, etc.

Some things to try:

Work the bonnet pull lever a couple of times to be sure it moves freely.

Look at the latch mechanism under the hood. Is it in the 'catch' position or in the 'lock' position, preventing it from catching with the opened bonnet above?

Try flicking the latch mechanism a couple of times with your fingers to be sure it's not stuck.

Drop the bonnet from a bit higher, or give it a more swift downswing (don't go crazy though).

Once down, press firmly downward on both headlamps at the same time.

Mine seems to take a bit of a slam when I close it. Open it back up all the way, then lower it to at least a foot above closing and give it a push down.

i usually drop it from about 2 feet and continue to push down on the grill
gently as it locks. mine is a bit tough to close too.

Don't be shy to let it drop from 1-2 feet to close it.

The MINI hood, with the headlights, is a bit hard to close without a bit of "help". Let gravity do his work lol

Keep us updated.

Can you post a pic of it all the way open and after you try to close it?

Wonder if the cable is frozen. Happened to me, but with the opposite problem, couldn't open it. Took them all day to replace it.

I had the same thing happen where the gap on the driver's side w/ the bumper was VERY large.

I just needed to push down HARDER as I closed it.

I even asked at mini and their comment was "don't be shy, CLOSE the hood don't dance around it hoping it'll lock"

I once didn't drop MIB's Bonnet from high enough. The driver's side latched and the passenger side didnt. I had to go to the passenger's interior and pull the release. That allowed the drivers side of the bonnet to release so that I coud pull the lever to release the bonnet and raise it. Now I always make certain to drop the hood from 2 feet or so. I also give it a little push just before releasing.

Hope that this helps you!

Well, if it doesnt latch completely, and youve never opened it before, then the hatches must be a little too far down. they are obviously within range for the bonnet clips to reach them(otherwise it wouldnt have ever been closed)

Easily solved. they are not hard to re-adjust. MINI should be able to do it for you also. it would take all but a few minutes to do it yourself. I believe they are 13mm bolts. just loosen a bit, and raise up the hatches...simple as that..

I'm curious as to whether this works for you...let me know if you try it

I dunno I never have to slam it or push on hoods,I drop from 2 feet. Most car companys dont advise leaning on hoods. The only ones Ive seen with this problem are ones with strut bars that interfere with hood insulation.
