Arm Rests Questions

I've been doing a little look around for an arm rest for my MINI. Do you guys have one to recommend? I really want one that matches the interior, but don't like the OEM one.

Though I like the appearance of the OEM armrest, I was concerned that because of it's lack of adjustability, it would get in the way of my elbow when shifting, and there are several posts here on NAM about it being pretty flimsy, rattles and the compartment pops open too easily. So, I didn't order it for my '06 MCS.

However, I enjoyed having an armrest in previous cars, so I have been sniffing around the Internet looking at the different available designs. Here is the one that seems to "have it all" for my needs. It is made from genuine BMW Panther Black Leather, has ALOT of internal storage, is very adjustable, doesn't eliminate the rear cup holder and actually mounts to the frame of the driver's seat itself. This last point is important, because it moves WITH the seat to remain useable and comfortable for ANY size driver.

keep in mind that I don't actually HAVE this armrest yet, so I can't offer you any real experience - it is just my front-runner so far...

Click on the pic to see the MiniMania site and read more about it.

Here is one on ebay. A few of us NAM'ers have bought it from this vendor and are happy with it. It is also known as the original OEM Mini arm rest.

Does that arm rest fold up to a vertical position? I like the armrest in my wifes A4 for that reason.

Thanks,

Chuck

I like the one Moss has on sale for $40. It's durable, SUPER EASY to install, adjustable and provides good support for me. It also serves as a jump pad for my dog from the back to the front seats. HE is the reason I bought this model, as HE destroyed the other "flip-up" model I had.

Does anyone have a PDF copy of the vendor installation instructions for the MiniMania armrest; the one that mounts to the driver's seat?

http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/NM.../InvDetail.cfm

Thanks.

I got this one and I love it!

http://www.autoaccessory4u.com/02bmwmicocos2.html

It take about 5 minutes to install, doesn't get in the way of anything, and matches the OEM black leatherette seats. And the price is as cheap as you're gonna get. It doesn't have storage capabilities, but I didn't care about that anyway. They also threw in (free!) leatherette door console liners and center console liner. I was shocked at the bargain.

zeusboy-

I have been mulling over this Group-O-Goodies for a while but was skeptical about the quality (given the way-low price), the appearance and the mounting method.

How does it attach?

Is it a solid-feeling mount?

I understand it is somewhat adjustable - OK, How?

THANKS...

It's made of 2 pieces of powder coated steel that join together at the armrest with one twisting screw underneath the armrest cushion.
Each of the two pieces attach underneath the plastic molding of the center brake console (between the plastic and the carpeting) by sliding the angled piece of steel underneath and joining them together at the top.

It can be adjusted forward (towards the front of the car) or backward by just sliding the two steel pieces before they are connected to the armrest cushion. So you can really put it where you want.

It feels pretty solid to me. I guess the plastic of the brake console might break if you jump up and down on it, but the steel isn't gonna.

Yea, I was a little skeptical too, but for the price, I figured I'd give it a shot.I was pleasantly surprised.
Actually, my wife gave it to me for Xmas, after I picked it out and when I asked her about the console liners in the box, she said he just gave them to her. It could have been her voice; I dunno. And I'm not a spokesperson for this company--I just really like it.

Thanks for the good info, Zeusboy !!

Sounds like a winner at this price. This same model is being sold by other vendors as the 'Elbow Landing Device'. It usually gets good reviews.

Autoaccessory4u.com actually offers this 'package' of 3 items on their 'Half Price Sale' page for that same price. It has been there for months - I've been watching it, so it looks to be their regular price. They also sell this package and many other items on eBay for the same prices listed as "Buy it Now", and seem to have a very good feedback rating (99.7%) given how much they sell there.

Coopernicus,

If you get it, I'm sure you'll be as happy with it as I am.
