I just did my Brake mod to use the rear fog lights. When I started I was using the PDf file that has been around the sites. Looking at the pictures it looks like they pulled off all the entire rear panels. Will I opened up the the rear panels and started investigating, I noticed that on the passengers side the H/k amp is in the way of removing the light assembly as described in the instruction. Ok, not wanting to rip out the interior of my two week old baby any other ideas??????

Well look at the light on the drivers side, I was able to remove the plug from light....too easy, press the clip and you can take into the boot, no problems. Verified the wires and used a set of wires splices with a wire to connect them. (Not to found of the paper clip trick) Plug connector back into light and it works, the rear fog light is on when I step on the brake. To cool, now the passengers side, was able to unplug it, could not see it to well, but got it unplug and it also has enough wire to reach the boot. Connected the splices and wire and reconnected. Both are working great. Total time to install 10 minutes.......

The new lights are way cool.

Hi Minirolls
did you make your own wire splices, or did you get them ready made from somewhere like Radio shack?

I am confused as well. What are these rear Fogs???? can I just hook them up as rear fogs? Do they make the brake lights brighter? any chance that having both lights come on will overheat the wires or fry the fuse??? I hate being confused

the rear fog lights are the upper most lights in your tail lights. If you turn yuor lights on and step on the brake you notice they do not light up. When jumper the brake light wire to the fog light light wire the upper lights work when you step on the brake. No extra problem with frying the wires. I did some voltage chacks and everything is good. Just brighter brake lights.

Check this link Brake Light Mod and you will see the difference. This mod lights up the entire light so that people know you are stopping or are stopped when your foot is pressing the brake. MINIUSA should have done this all along.

excellent reply minirolls. Now
I have another question. Perhaps for one of our fine cohorts with the TIS CD's the wire that is hooked to the fog lights now, where does it terminate? Is there perhaps a more convenient, or more versatile place to make a connection into this fog light wire?? Are these type of rear fogs legal in the US? Maybe usefull in some places? Just a thought.

I do not have the CD's but I would think that the fog light wire would terminate at the switch console, since we have no switch that is why they do not work. As far as a more convenient place to hook the m up. I thought that disconnectioning the plug and working the boot was pretty easy.

But if we could the original wiring diagram that would be better.

Ok I found a web site photo of the splices that I used. They are CALTERM Quick Splices

They crimp down on the wires you are using,. Just put a jumper wire in the middle of them and it works.

The rear fog lights are discussed at length on MINI2; check this page out which has "ModoMini" describing the wiring:
MINI2

He says:
"Ok, I just so happen to have the wiring schematic for the rear fog lights if anyone happens to have theirs apart. (I'll pull mine apart this weekend.)
From the (new) switch panel Pin locations 12 & 16 are used to feed the General Module Control unit (BC1?) in Pin locations 24 & 15. Lead 15 to 16 feeds the Led in the switch panel. Lead 24 to 12 is the signal lead for notifying the computer of a contact on the board.
From the General Module Control unit leads 15 & 17 lead to the left and right rear fog lights reespectively.
There is a lead shown from the General Control Module going to a 50 amp fuse but this fuse is not listed as specific to the rear fog lights."

Hope this helps someone ... if not, I will be working on mine when there is less snow on the ground!
