New or used?

Ok in my case, I can get a used Mini for 23,000 or get a new one with a limit of $27,000 what would you do?

go with the used one for less $$$, but with the possibility of previous owner neglect.

or go new with a few less options and possibly a wait, unless the stealership has one on the lot

And the options you want

Consider the following:

1. Millage/warranty

2. Financing a used cost more interest for a shorter period of time.

3. Financing new for a longer period of time at a lower interest.

If posible talk to the owner about his/her car and try to fine out what kind of car person he/she is. How close is the used car? Can you "swing" and take a look? How does the person's current car look? That could tell you whether or not the person is keeping the car clean for selling or because he/she is into his/her car. Just my two cents. If it was me I would probably try and save money if it has the options I wanted.

Mini's tend to hold their value really well, so it kinda depends on your market area and what's available. It also depends on how long you're going to keep the car. If you are going to swap it to something else in a year or two, the used one may be a better deal. If you are going to keep it a long time, new may be better (warranty and all that jazz).

I opted for new, since in NorCal "new" and 2004/2005 models are nearly the same price (within $2k roughly) so it the savings was so small that new made more sense.

Good idea... I was thinking this too when I checked out my last car, but in this case most minis in the area are sold by dealerships used or the BMW/Mini ones...

I think I might go new...I found some in Dallas at MSRP with one just how I want it sports package and I like the black, DS, PS, and silver (which they have all of.

Thanks guys, does anyone know about MINI of the Woodlands in Houston or John Roberts MINI of Dallas?

Thanks for all the help..hopefully this Christmas/Birthday(Jan 21) will be a good one!

Used works fine...

Used is a great way to go only if you find the right car at the right price. Although my search is over, I took a look at AutoTrader online again the other night. People still seem to have a pretty strong opinion over the value of their cars! There are a couple of right-priced cars in there, but you have to consider condition and distance (as well as financing if that's a concern). For me it was great - I got a MINI more expensive than I could have easily afforded (26k), it still has two years of factory warranty, is in great shape (checked out by a mechanic, carfaxed of course), and was dirt cheap. Considering that the options were essentially 'free', I think that I was pretty lucky - and I saved enough to buy my winter steelies and tires the next day!

My solution was to get a NEW one, order it and hold the line on add-ons, which are pure profit for MINI/BMW and the new one was 22K or 23K w/taxes and fees.

Why not buy new at $23,000. That would get you an 06 Cooper S with either sport or prem. or other combos. Thats what I would do.
