I may do bike tape in a similar design... I really like how it's functional in an automotive comfort sort of way, while also displaying your sport of choice. nicely done!

Thanks! It really is only a temporary fix though. Tennis racquet wrap only lasts about a season before it starts to break down from friction and heat. I'd like to get some leather covers for the door pulls and down tubes before that happens. I bet bike tape would hold up much longer, that's a good idea.

Apply one end with some hanging over, don't stretch much if at all to apply, and cut the ends to fit. 15-20 minutes should get you a job well done. A "must do mod" for R56s with their higher beltline. Yes, it comes off clean, no residue during summer. At least for me, YMMV.

...

how did the electrical tape hold up?? any residue upon removal now since it's been a couple years??

Thanks!!
I tapped into the footwell lights running the wires thru the rubber door to car tube where all the speaker wires etc. go in. They dim down with the interior lights too.

As it turned out, I actually pulled it after that summer, on my car (astro black, silver roof, checkmate checkerboard on the scuttles), the blackout treatment ended up looking "cheap" rather than "tough". Came off no issues, though I had some on another car (under hood, so higher temps) that left a small amount of residue. Goo-gone took care of it quickly, and it was minor.

I still maintain that the blackout beltline is a "must do" for R56's.... While commercial vinyl tape is also not super expensive ($15-20 shipped, I believe, from Mini merchants), for those impatient, cheap souls like me, the Super33+ Scotch Electrical Tape worked wonders! Just don't stretch much when applying.

Seems like an easy mod. ...
Well, I have sort of duplicated my idea on Trigger. Things have changed in 6 years, that shop doesn't have the perforated screen on hand. Went to a sign shop, they happened to have some black perforated screen, but had to buy it, for $17 a square foot!

Sorry, not a close up shot, but you get the idea.

I did a cheapie mod to get a bracket to hang a radio mic for my GMRS radio. It cost all of $2 for a small piece of aluminum plate and a few $ for spray paint and primer that I already had rolling around in the garage. I'm sure it could be modified to work for phones, GPS, etc, though I'd make it hang 1/2 cm lower next time so I don't get intereference w/ the CD coming in and out of the player (I have to catch it on the way out and lift a little bit)

Working on this dorkMOD myself. Pretty nice. And if people want some perforated vinyl, message me - shop had a ratty piece left over that they gave me. Its white, but plasti-dip should work wonders.

And by a piece, I mean a roll. Pay for some shipping and I'll cut you a foot or two. Around a buck for a mod like this?? hell yea.

Hey guys, I'll be posting a whole thread on this a bit later, but I figured I'd give you a taste. I've always hated the orange interior lights so I'm in the process of swapping all of them over to blue, a much better look in my eye anyway... What do you all think?

I like the look a lot! I bet they also don't completely disappear when you put on polarized sunglasses! How long is it going to take BMW to figure this one out?

Thats a great color for the dash lights. It still matches the color of the dome lights too.

I've been wanted to do this for quite a few months, are there any DIYs for it? I wanted to do the gauges and the door handle lights. Now if only there was way to do it for the radio...

I'll be doing them all in my car, given time, (radio included) I took a bunch of pictures when I took the gauges apart, and I'll be able to show you what SMTs need to be redone.

On this same topic, anybody have a spare stock radio laying around they'd be willing to part with? Would be able to do it sooner if I didn't have to tear my whole dash apart and drive around for a week while I'm working on it.

Black gauge/AC vent rings

Had some glossy spray paint sitting in our garage, despite the messy MINI, I'm happy with the results
