R50/53 Dorky cheapskate modification
I knew I left something out of my last post. I used sign grade self sticking vinyl. A very good friend of mine owns a sign shop here in town. If you have ever seen a banner announcing the opening of a new store or the banners on the back fence of a little league field it's the same stuff. Wrapping the pillars in white vinyl was the hard part because of the curves. I used a high temp heat gun to shrink the vinyl around the corners. Another trick is to get a small spray bottle with water and a couple of drops of dish soap in it, then you can dampen the area that you are applying the vinyl to. That way you can slide the piece around until you are happy with the position and then squeegee the water out.

use about a mable sized blob of soap for a 1 liter or so sized spray bottle.
a heat gun is a worthwhile investment if you plan on doing anything with vinyl.
hair dryers DO work, but they move ALOT of air, and tent to cause the vinyl to flap around and stick to itself. i'm lucky enough to have a hair dresser for a mother, so i have access to $500 hair dryers with tons of options.
a $40 heatgun is waaaay more cost effective.
(i used to work for a sign shop, doing TONS of wraps for a few years)

Cleaned up the battery box shield then painted it with Silver Brake Caliper Paint and two black stipes in VHT High Temp Paint.....cost was $0.00 - paint was in cabinet from another project.

Did you have reasons beyond aesthetics for this mod? Protection, et al? Curious for two reasons: one is I'm the pragmatic type and two is that it just doesn't seem like a particularly visible item to enhance the aesthetics.
Here is a better picture of the pillars. I was going to unveil them on the Union Jackification thread but this thread is as good a place as any. The attachment is the UJ jpg I use. I insert it in a word document and then enlarge it ( drag the corner of the pic ) until it's the size I need and then I print it. That gives me a full size template to work from. The pillar was about 12.5" by 8.5".
The colors are Royal blue and Intermediate red.

Yes, you said this...
She's here. It is certainly possible to overdo something... but it's also certainly possible that folks will like and appreciate it! As a show car, great. Appreciate the effort, but it's not my taste.
"That is like an excellent Bordeaux... when we're serving fish.".

Nothing ostentatious, more along the lines of where's Waldo. Small Jacks here and there, valve stem covers, lug nut covers, that sort of thing. The Union Jack roof decal will be going back on though. The old one was faded and needed replacing.
you'd have to use white on the glass, and then big black triangles on the roof to make a white logo using the negative space around the black vinyl.
you'd essentially be union jacking out the top half of the car (minus the windshield of course)
Since the strut brace, air filter kit, and engine damper were pressing against the insulation under the bonnet, I removed it! Seems like it added 5 HP because I can hear the engine more.
Cost: $ZERO.

this is a cheapskate mod if you ask me:

Under $200 to do my roof.

2) You can see it when it's up on the lift.
3) It was getting rusty looking and it was the ONLY rusty part on the car since replacing about every suspension component in the last 3 months.....
This is what I did. Total cost 99 cents + tax. I know its not pretty but I did it over my lunch.
I will work on the asthetics later. When I don't use it, I just tuck under the seat.

the definition of "cheap and cheerful". I love it.
it works!!
well i had been trying to justify buying the chrome orange turn and marker bulbs for quite some time but could not come to terms with myself (alter ego)
so today while getting a body for my rc car i came across this chrome paint made by alclad, it is a true chrome. it cost $8 for a little jar. i came home and hooked up the airbrush, poured the alclad chrome paint into it and sprayed the orange bulbs, once they dried i installed them and presto.... there is no orange color in the front indicators and when you turn them on.... there is ORANGE!
this cheapo mod..... is not busted and it works
i will post other fabrication type mods soon....

where did you get it?!
I used chrome spray paint from a hardware store, worked well too. Another option is to mask the bulb base and just spray the "front" of the bulb - looks silver from the front and amber from the sides. Mine hasn't worn off in over a year of all-season driving - good call! DO NOT spray it on too thick - which is hard ot do with the hardware store stuff since it comes out fast. Easy way to mask and allow the bulb to dry: Cut a hole in some cardboard, pop the bulb in, spray, wait until dry, and CAREFULLY reinstall.
