An important question before I get my MINI

I swear I did a search, so I apologise if this is an ad naseum topic, but being but a week or two away from joining the fraternity, I've suddenly realized that I don't know MINI ettiquette. So the question is... Do MINI owners wave to eachother, flash lights, honk horns, give the thumbs up or simply pass in blissful semi-ignorance of one another? Just want to start motoring on the proper foot.

I've gotten a wave, headlight flash, thumbsup and a honk. So I guess all the above would be appropriate.

up to about a year or so ago, a lot of MINI drivers around my area were
real enthusiasts and waved..but lately there are more and more people
that buy these cars as if they were Focus or Civics and they don't care
to wave.

if it's a modded MINI i will wave, but if it's bone stock i probably will not.
but of course, if I receive a wave or some acknowledgement, i will
obviously wave or nod or thumbs up.

I won't even have a MINI until February/early March, but today a guy in a blue MINI with white bonnet stripes and the English flag on his roof was parked behind me at a light and I gave him a thumbs up. The sac didn't even acknowledge it though! Just sat there pretending he didn't see me!

I guess I just have to wait until I'm in my MINI.

Like others said above, a honk, wave, or brights flash is my usual course of action.

Of course sadly enough, not many Mini owners in my area see fit to return the courtesy. But that's alright. I'm waving more at the car than the driver anyway.

I generally just wave, but a lot of the MINI drivers around here are oblivious to the cars heritage, so a honk or flash would most likely scare them. I have also been known to miss waves and wave frantically after the other MINI has already passed....

Yeah, I'll wave like a fool at every Mini I see and get absolutely jack in return, but the one time I'll be looking down at my radio or something, and a Mini will fly by going in the other direction and I'll see the wave in my peripheral vision and they go by too fast for me to roll down my window and reciprocate(I have dark tint).

I feel guilty every time. Like I've violated some sort of Code.

I think we need to add this to the Confessional thread! I have been there and felt guilty a couple of times. The worst is when you are going the SAME direction and either pass or get passed and somehow miss the "cue."

I also will get upset when I wave and get nothing in return. How FRUSTRATING! ...but maybe they were just looking at their radio.

To answer the original question, however - yes, it has been discussed numerous times (it's OK, we forgive you - especially since it's been a while since I remember seeing it last ). But, no, there is not a universally recognized signal or acknowledgement. Folks haven't been able to agree on any particular gesture.

The important thing is that you do acknowledge your fellow Motorers, as you seem well prepared to do!

Yes! All of the above! Most of the year, I keep my window down and wave enthusiastically at all MINI drivers. I flash my brights in the daytime, too, if I can do it in a timely manner. Once in a rare while I honk. Thumbs-up and the vee-for-victory/peace sign work, too.

Well, I figured as much and I must say I intend to participate. No need for you guys who've missed a few to fret I suspect. Its far rougher in the P-car world. I wave, not arms out the window, but a definite salute to any and all of my ilk, but having a somewhat coveted model, versus one held in dubious esteem by some and virtually unknown to the Boxster crowd, theres often is an awkward moment. What are the rules? Should a 996 wave to a 993? Should a 944 wave to a Cayenne? Should anyone ever wave to a 914? ( ) So I must say its a relief to join a fraternity which at least in the main is in favor of friendship and comradery on road. We do wave to 1275s right?

Wave from inside the car - "Another MINI, great.."
Thumbs up from inside the car - "Cool, a fellow motorer.."
Wave with hand outside of car - "SWEET! another MINI!"
Thumbs up with hand outside - "Enjoy your motoring experience!"
Headlight/foglight blink - "I'm too lazy, but I'm still acknowledging you."
Honking of horn - "I'm overexcited to see another MINI owner!"
Going out of your way to follow the MINI you jsut saw - Stalker... or "Let's motor together!!"

What's your sign?
