2006 Questions

I'm still hanging around here, I've been looking into ordering an 06 Cooper in January. I have two quick questions about 2006 MINIs though.

1. For 06 models with the navigation system, does it allow you to alter your destination or make other inputs while driving?

I've heard the trend in some newer systems is to lock the driver out of most functions while the vehicle is moving. I do see the safety advantage in that, but I also feel confident in my ability to only mess with the system when it doesn't pose a driving hazard.

2. Is there any information about a Jan. 2006 price increase?

The MA at a local dealer told me it is standard practice with MINI. Since people ordering cars in the near future may be taking delivery after the new year, it would seem like MINI USA would have settled on final numbers for 2006.

I was thinking about getting the NAV too but decided to keep my speedometer in the center and picked up a Garmin color, voice activated NAV off Ebay for $500. It mounts easy. Just an option...

you could do what i did on my x3 and put the car in euro mod. No annoying messages when you start the car, it's quite nice

On the 2005 you still can change the nav while the car is moving - the BMW/MINI nav has been that way for years and I assume will be that way on the 06s too.

I havent' heard of any Jan price increases, but then again we haven't heard of any planned production changes either - yet..

I have an 06 with NAV and yes, you can adjust it while the vehicle is moving. I normally don't mess with it, but my wife has selected an alternate route during a slow moving stau (stall) on the autobahn.

My car is US spec.

As for the price increase, my MA has not heard of any.

Thanks for the help everyone. That is exactly what I wanted to hear about the nav system, so I'm thinking a Cooper is a go.
