R50/53 Roof Studio - Neat!
Nice.
I've been considering a roof graphic for the past few days. Hopefully this decision will not end up like me trying to decide on a set of wheels. I've been looking at wheels since May of 03.

I don't know much except what I see from clicking around - looks like the graphics are downloadable
Wish I could tell you more but I posted it just based on seeing the page

I had been looking at it for a few days and figured you all knew about it! I have only found a couple (that I liked) that I could download and none look like there is an option for the moonroof unless I am missing something? I found another site with vinyl graphics for any style roof but not near the design collection. I wonder what the cost to have the graphics printed would be even with the down load?

As for price check around. When we did graphics for another car (not for the roof) we found that local sign shops offered the car graphic stuff and would print out anything we wanted, price varied.

The Studio is a pretty cool deal -- but I don't want to put my vector art out there for others to use. I mean, I don't know if ANYONE would even want my roof, but I like knowing that mine is the only one like it.
Oh, and if you are interested...my graphics are here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...&postcount=120

I paid a local shop $200 for the install and I have no idea if that was a good price or not.

joking :smile:I currently have a very boring black roof with no decals and a sunroof, but i've been considering a decal. Why would you not put a decal on if you have a sunroof?

You CAN put on a decal with the sunroof, I just can't recommend that you use perforated vinyl. Perforated vinyl is most commonly used on the sides of buses -- riders can see out and the area for advertising expands to include the entire vehicle -- BUT it's on a vertical surface. Perforated vinyl on a horizontal surface, even if it has been laminated, just can't survive standing water or excessive heat. That's why I am having mine re-done and am using solid vinyl all over. It's a trade-off, but I'm fine with it. If I want to see out the roof, I'll just have to open the sunroof. No biggie. Plus, it will keep the car cooler in the summer. Take the good with the maybe not-so-good.
I designed some other unique rooftops for Cooperflags, but they haven't yet been offered to the public. They were looking for designs that would appeal to the female MINI owner, so if flowers are your thing, email them and ask about "Angie's Girlie Rooftops".

cops seem to not like that
Red Ryder, Thank you for that suggestion  I'll take a look at UK lips
If I end up getting a top piece i'd like to go with a cool pattern... perhaps blue and orange squarish patterns
kidding
I can agree with others about the fact that perforated vinyl is not suitable for use on a horizontal surface. My CooperFlags sunroof flag began to show unpeasant signs of wear after 6 months and I finally removed it in disgust after 9 months. Unfortunately, I bought my flag from the previous owner of CooperFlags and the new owner could not help me since he believed I had been sold sub-standard material by someone else. I am very happy with the recent graphics my wife purchased from CooperFlags, but they are solid vinyl and I know they will last and be a great value in the long run.
After consulting with the president of the large top notch graphics company that installed my perforated sunroof UJ (Sticky Business in Atlanta), I learned that printed vinyl simply does not have a very long lifespan, especially on a roof where it will receive 100% of the sun's UV rays. He told me that such things are normally used for advertisements on buses/etc and such advertising campaigns rarely have more than a 6 month lifespan before being replaced with the next ad. City bust drivers aren't quite as picky about pefection as MINI owners!
I am not against printed graphics, but now know in advance that they should be considered temporary. If I ever did one again, I would order several to be printed up and would replace them as needed.
For long term durability, I'd stick with plotter-cut solid colored 3M vinyl and make sure that my graphic came with a written 3 or more year warranty since 3M materials are supposed to be able to handle several years outside when used on signs, etc.

I love the roof studio
This is actually what got me back into looking at a MINI and has led me to placing my order! When I was in London over the summer, I saw a yellow MINI with a purple and yellow Union Jack on the roof. I just fell in love with it and when I got home I started researching and stumbled upon the miniusa site. I ended up designing a bunch of roof styles which then led to building a car which led me to NAM and finally ordering!!!!
I think I may have had a breakthrough today though. I ordered PW/B because none of the current colors just grabbed me and I decided white would be the easiest to change around with add-ons, etc. Well I think I may have just solved everything with the roof I designed today. Now this is a very rudimentary mock up, I am really thinking of a design like you see on the fabric of beach or porch furniture. I figure this can be my spring/summer look! I was also inspired by the side mirrors on the Tokyo Concept Vehicle for those of you that have seen it.
So what do you think?

[QUOTE=eVal]I think the Tokyo concept was influenced by the Paul Smith designed Mini Cooper. Here are a couple of pics, I think you might like it
You are right, I DO like it. Boy I just love the MINI and how many styles and designs fit it just so!
Thanks so much for the great pics, I'm printing and putting them in my file.
