This is an appeal to all my fellow "Silk Green" Motorers. As you probably know, our chosen color has been discontinued (some say forever, some say temporarily, I say I'm glad I got mine). It's rumored it's because it was the least ordered color (no one ever OVERestimated taste) but in reading various threads here I seem to see a fair number of us. Would you come forward for a very un-scientific slice-of-time count?

PS- You can see me and my Silk Green beauty on page 144 of member MINIs- there's a shot of our first meeting...

Why I love silk green:

~SG showcases the chrome trim better than any of the other colors
~SG doesn't show dirt like the dark colors do
~SG is rarer, thus more valuable in future trade-ins (esp. if they discontinue it).
~SG changes colors in different lighting. Kinda like a mood ring.
~SG is different than any other car color on the market (along with EB). Even the light green Jaguars look pale next to my MINI.
~SG has the sexiest color name. Velvet red takes 2nd place.

Nice looking car!!

Yes, another SG here (white top). I picked it because it was different and I wanted to be different. It's also a color I seem to wear a lot and have always been drawn to. I haven't actually seen a SG MINI yet; I suspect that when I pick mine up IN 11 DAYS

that I will be quite pleased.

Saw my Silk Green/White one on the showroom floor and knew it was The One! I, too, am puzzled by the supposed unpopularity of Silk Green. . . I get lots of compliments and every time it comes up on here, people rave about how much they love it. I agree with others who have observed that it really has to be seen in person to be appreciated. I didn't much like it on the website but in person. . . yes, yes, yes.

hello fellow mini maniacs..... my husband and i had planned on getting a MC later rather than sooner and when we were out kickin tires one day at LB MINI and heard the Silk Green was discontinued we HAD to have one.... all the green ones out here in CA are automatic and we want the manual trans... after a bit of searching we found a spot at Scottsdale MINI where we could order our baby just before the color was gone!!! a dream come true... we will be motoring it back from AZ to CA and if you have any break-in tips let us know~~ SILK GREEN ROCKS!!
'03 MC Silk Green, white top, chrome, all packages,16" run flats dimming RV mirror, etc... she is scheduled for production now and we hope to get her the end of March/April.... WE CAN'T WAIT!!

Wow- you actually got to see one before you bought yours! I chose the color based on the Silk Green/Black one in the catalog! I didn't see one in real life until a month after my order was in!

I saw an all silk green MINI at Fairfield MINI in Stamford CT, and thought it looked beautiful, then 2 months later, I was back, in Stamford, and saw someone take delivery of their Silk Green/Black MINI. I didnt see much else there, so we left, and drove over to Westchester MINI, where, like SilkGreenGreg, I found my MINI on the showroom floor, it was beautiful! My friend insisted that I get it, saying that if I didnt, he would! So, I put a deposit on it, and picked it up 3 days later! I think it was meant to be! I have been seeing another Silk Green/White MINI around New Caanan alot recently! I was shocked, excited, and kinda disapointed at the same time.

Enjoy your Silk Green! Those are great pics in the Gallery!

Matt

Needler, Youre going to LOVE your Silk Green!! Post some pics when you get it!

Add two more SGs to the count. They were on the lot at Morristown MINI when I went to pick up a part this week. I'm sure they'll be sold very soon.

I didn't "go for the green" myself, though I think it looks fantastic. While it's sad that they're doing away with it (I think it looks MUCH better than the gold), just think...all of you lucky enough to have one will soon have a rare (and beautiful) car to show off.

I'm picturing one at the Pebble Beach Concours in 30 years..."A marvelous example of an early-production MINI, with original, rare Silk Green paint"...

Is it a subdued color? Or is it a bright one?

So do I!! I go to Pebble Beach every year- now I know what I'll enter!
I'll just have to work pretty hard for the next 30 years keeping that paint original...

The answer is, "yes". It is in my opinion a bit of both. It is pale, but deeply saturated. One of the earlier posts mentioned its ability to take on different shades in different light and at various times of the day. It's quite something, that has to be experienced "in the metal" as it were!
