i've read in a popular car mag that you can only expect to get 10% return on the extra stuff you've done to your car. this wouldn't include works kit stuff since it's pretty much factory.
i.e. the $5000 you've spent on wheels exaust brakes and ecu will only get you 500 bucks above a stock car.
i recomend you try and sell to a MINI fan that really knows the value of the additional mods.

Or, keep the original parts and sell the aftermarket seperately, sell the car in std. configuration.

The problem with try to sell a modded car is that everyone has their own idea of the "right" way to do it and of course, personal taste. So for example, the guy who likes Konis won't be interested in paying extra for your car if it has Bilsteins. I'd take as much off the car as you can and sell separate, assuming 1) you kept the original parts and 2) you don't have to pay a shop to do it for you, driving you deeper in the hole. I did this with a heavily modded Miata and got 50 cents on the dollar for all the mods I did.
Trending Topics
rims, cold air intake, easy install things, if you go deep into motor, pulley, chip etc... will be hard to remove.

Thanks for the advice, but I won't be taking the parts off. The dealership did the work and kept the old parts (at my request).
Kelley Blue Book has the car listed at $17,870 in Good condition. I would argue mine is better than "good", but wouldn't we all.
I suppose I'm fine to start at $19K since the car has all those mods. Could be worth that to someone who wants to have a fast MINI without buying a new one and having to hop it up themselves. I'm sure I'll have to take less, but that's part of the game.
Thanks. JR

Have you done any autocross or track driving or only street driving?
If you have not really driven your MINI hard then your car should be in good shape and you can ask for a bit more.
Buyers don't want to buy expensive modded cars because they don't know how they have been treated (mistreated).
It's a plus if the dealership did the upgrade installs and you have receipts on maintenance.
Check your area for how much stock MINIs are selling for and be a bit above them.

The mods are the basics, really...
NRP Stainless Exhaust
MINI Mania CAI
MINI Mania Springs
MINI Mania 15% Pulley
MINI Mania Adjustable Rear Swaybar
MINI Mania Front Upper Stress Bar
I have autocrossed the car, but it's not been abused and I've taken good care of it.
As a 36 y/o father of three, I'm long past my car flogging days!
Nonetheless, I didn't put all that stuff on it to go slow.
Thanks for the responses. Surprised no one has sold one though.

Sounds like you have a good MCS.
NRP exhaust is fine. Nice and light. Hopefully the buyers don't mind the exhaust note (could be a plus).
CAI is fine.
Springs are OK as long as the wheels and tires offer a measure of comfort-buyers are generally more interested in comfort over performance. A young male buyer might be the opposite.
15% pulley (very reliable) and rear swaybar (softest setting) are both fine.
Front strut bar you can remove and sell separately without disturbing anything. Just don't over torque the nuts on the strut towers (28 lb-ft).
People in my area have sold modded MINIs but the prices really vary with total mileage and location. Urban areas with lots of younger buyers might do a bit better. Most family oriented buyers could care less about modding stuff until they learn more about performance driving.
It would common for a one year old MCS with similar mods to be offered for sale in my area about about $21,500+ but the prices will also vary with the factory options ordered.
I just BOUGHT a modded '04 MCS from a non-Mini dealer. The car was priced well below what it should have been, according to KBB & Edmunds. The car only has 10K miles, everything but a cold package, plus upgrades to: brakes, rotors, plugs & wires, S/S brake lines, CAI, strut tower brace, XM radio, and armrest. Don't know if the dealer didn't really know, (not likely, based on my extensive conversation w/ the salesman), or just because they really couldn't add on all the mods.
Just an observation from the other side of the sale !

Mods usually have an impact on the resale value of the car. Reason #1 I have left my MCS 100% stock and enjoy it very much as it rolled off the assembly line.
Mods only have value to the next buyer down the line if the person understand their purpose and really want/need them. The way I see it. If you decide to mod your car, you are doing it for your own pleasure, not for the next guy. However, if you ever decide to sell the vehicle be prepared to have a hard time selling it or take a big hit on the initial investment of said mods.
In most people's minds, modded cars = Abused cars. Modding is a very personal choice and I can see why people do it and I respect that. But if you are going to invest serious $$$ and time into modding a car, plan to hold on to that baby for as long as you possibly can to justify the investment vs depreciation caused by the mods. Otherwise if you think you won't have the car for a very long time, or resale value is important to you, sorry Charlie, you have to keep that baby stock as intended by the manufacturer.

Sell my modded Mini
Not in this life time:smile: Even if I were to be fortunate enough to hit the Mother of all Lottos, she would just have a hangar to share with her new friends

Ok ok...everyone has a price...This Mini is PRICELESS

Somehow this thread has taken a turn.
But if possible, I'd like to reel it back in.
The mods I've done were for my own enjoyment, not for resale value.
That said, now that there are five people in my family, the MINI is no longer a luxury I can afford.
So, If anyone has sold a modified MINI -- regardless of your motivations for modifying or selling -- I'd still love to hear what you asked for it, what you got, where you are, miles, mods...etc. If you don't mind sharing.
As it stands, I'll keep the asking price at $19K, put it in the papers here in Virginia and expect to take somewhat less than what I'm asking.
Thanks for the replies. JR
