Royal Grey

Anyone have any pics of the new Royal Gray offered for the 2006 MCS? The PR pictures from Mini I have seen on the web (showcasing the Park Lane) don't look all that different from Dark Silver, and the "build your own" tool on miniusa.com, obviously doesn't show the way the color will look on a real car. Anyone know where there are other detailed pics?

I have a question about royal grey, too

I wish I had some pics. I liked it on the website with its brown hue. The sample I saw in a dealership looked a LOT like anthracite, but just a tiny fraction of a shade lighter. My guess is that it's pretty much the same color, but lightened up by either an additive for outside use or by a clearcoat, if the dash anthracite isn't clearcoated (I don't know whether or not it is).

Anyway, what I really wanted to know is why they spell it with an 'e' rather than the 'a' in the cloth color.

Not sure if you've seen these pics yet. I made a thread with links to pics of the cars from an auto show, including 10 pics of a car in Royal Grey, the new "Cooper Park Lane" edition.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=51642

Royal Grey still looks fairly brownish to me, in most lights, in those 10 photos anyway.

Amen to that! Another red, and a third gray/silver? How about a real green?

I like the Royal Grey so I ordered it sight unseen for my Week 42 build car. The samples at the dealer are considerably darker than the Dark Silver. I am getting mine with body colored roof, think stealth. I will have an aftermarket set of lighter wheels/non runflats waiting when the car arrives, either an anthracite or dark bronze finish.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen those yet. I can definitely see the difference between that and the DS now, but I don't know that it is big enough to justify a new color. They should have made RG a non-metallic like the gray on the Audi TT a couple years back. That would have differentiated them better. Anyway, I also agree that the colors in '06 leave a lot to be desired. If they were going to take Electric Blue out of the line, they should have replaced it with an equally quirky color. What about the Gold offered on the MC? That would look equally good on an MCS. But who am I to talk...I have a PS/B...

Two words: Olive Green... Saw a Z4 in a delicious olive green, with a good amount of yellow in it, not "military" olive green at all... I loved it! THAT would get me to consider selling my beautiful Dark Silver '02 MCS!

From the pix I've seen, Royal Grey appears to have a lot taupe in it! It is a very old-school classic British creamy-brownish grey. I like it....it is very understated and sophisticated.

But....it is really difficult to tell until we actually see them in the "flesh!"

Just got back from my dealer, where they had a Royal
Gray MINI. It has a greenish tint to it, that would look at home on a military vehicle. Very BMWish.
I'll try to remember to take my camera when I go back down.

The "build your own" is very deceiving I was interested in the Space Blue until saw it in person and in pictures...it is so much darker in person I was shocked Don't get me wrong it is a gorgeous blue and is contrasted nicely by the silver top (see photos I took below) but I was looking for a lighter color and ended up ordering the Solar Red, also sight unseen...just samples and photos !

I saw space blue, solar red, and royal grey the other day. all of them surprised me. The grey was very smooth looking and i loved it. The space blue was very shocking, it almost seems to ahve a weird texture to it. i really reallyliked it. almost subdued b ut bold at the same time. i think it moves up as one of the great colors

Sorry! Red is never my fave so i guess i glossed over it.

All 3 of them have a similar quality. Like a mute glaze to them. kinda like it has a thin plexiglass layer over it. It creates a very smooth look to it. The red was pretty nice but my least favorite.

Since I just got my new mini (and thus, had to make a color choice), I have given the colors a lot of thought. Maybe I am crazy, but to me, it seems like MINI is toning down the colors on purpose. They seem much more ordinary than you would expect from a unique car. I am thinking that maybe they want to appeal to a broader market. Maybe they think if the average human sees more MINIs that are more mainstream colors rather than more bold ones, maybe the average human might start to think, "Hey, those are not so different after all, maybe I could actually drive one of those.........".
What do you think?

If you look around at other makes of cars on the road, no car maker is getting real flashy with the colors, I followed a new Caddie today and thought to myself "that is almost the same color as the New Royal Grey!"

Making my color choice was also difficult and my family members were quite vocal in their comments in urging me "NOT TO GO CONSERVATIVE !" Soooo.. Solar Red is new and about as flashy as the colors get

Royal Grey is still BROWN to me, 2 at Downtown MINI in Orlando, now. I passed and am waiting for an order with pepper white and black...

Now I like that Space Blue, glad the order is already in and scheduled for production, no changes.

I Agree! BUT it seems like MINI should be different since the car is so different from the others on the road. I would expect a little more diversity, so they must have a reason in mind when they go from Electric Blue to the current colors?

In 2002 my wife wanted Silk Green really bad, but I was going to be the principle driver and felt Silk Green was not "Classic" Mini enough and opted for the Pepper White/Black which I love !

AH, I won't argue with the Pepper White/Black combo. One drove by me today, and it was very sharp. However, I am just now learning about the classics and the classic combos, so my opinions have more been out of gut/emotional reaction......... I would have gone with the Silk Green. Unique counts as much as Classic? No? A matter of opinion. Does anyone have a photo of Silk Green with black? That is what I have in my mind............

Not very good pic but would have been the combo I would have gotten if my wife had "won" on the choice.

Gut is fine ! ...and it wouldn't be very interesting if we all liked the same thing !
And if I had a dollar for everytime my wife said "what about Purple?" during the discussion process, I be set for lunches for a month !
