I read an unconfirmed report that beginning in March '03, our friends in the UK will be able to order chrome grills and mirrors for the Mini Cooper S.

I asked if chrome would be available for US Spec MINI S's, and I received this reply:

If you want it, let 'em know. If they do indeed have an MCS grill in chrome, I will certainly order it and do it myself. Otherwise, I'll use the Cooper grill.

My dealer is willing to install both, the chrome exterior mirror caps and the Cooper's chrome grille on any new ordered MCS as an aftermarket upgrade.

Unfortunately it seems that we can't get either one as a factory installed option. otherwise, not much of a problem if you want to change these bits yourself.

Are the chrome mirror covers you're talking about OEM? Any idea if the chrome grill from your dealer is a chrome S grill or a chrome Cooper grill?

Lastly, any part numbers would be appreciated.

Saw the chome mirrors at my dealer this weekend. Insanely expensive - something like $160 for a set of two. They are OEM parts. I would suspect a call to your local dealer should get you a price.

Well, you can do what I am... I'm ordering the chrome grill and little chrome piece over the rear latch from my dealer. Jules at Classic says that she can hook me up with one pulled off of a Cooper that got an Aero kit. The grill fits both cars... she says they look great with it! I *will* miss my bumperettes, though...

Strange..... They had several MINIs on display at the Detroit Auto Show equipped with chrome mirrors, so I assumed they were now an OEM option. Here's a pic of a BRG "S" on display in Detroit:

oooh.. ya know, I really like the chrome mirror caps, think they'd look good on a SilkGreen/White cooper?

 

A little more chrome would brighten up my MINI Cooper S.
