You know this place is starting to really bug me. I sign on every morning to look for some good info, just like reading the morning paper and all I see is the same ol' questions and the same ol' post day after day after day. I post something informative and nobody gives it a look or comment. All they are interested is counting chocolate, racing wrx's (which will beat any MINI) and a bunch of other crappy non-informative stupid posts. It seems this site has turned into a teenage chat room for gossup, not MINI talk. I don't know if its just me or if I am having a bad day but I just needed to vent. Am I alone or does anyone else feel this way?

Honestly, what are you looking for that hasn't already been said??? Once the major bugs have been worked out, what else is there to talk about???

Dang Nobull, you trying to kick over the ant hill or what?

I agree, there is a lot of Fluff on this site, but there seems to be on all three major sites. You have to kind of sort through the chaff to find the kernals of usefull (to the individual viewer) information.

Come up to J-ville and have a pint and relax , I'll buy the first round.

Don't run the PULSE. Just keep your head in the forums that deal with the MINI such as under the bonnet. I agree with the teen chat stuff. It is out of hand for a car oriented site.

When the weather gets cold, we are going to talk about frozen shifter cables.

With every single MINI still on warranty, the problems we have are generally solved by taking it to the dealership unless they are created by mod-madness.

And I agree that nobody should discredit the value of Counting Chocolate. Many of us really enjoy the community we have built here and since our vehicles are generally well built and drive as they should, we have the chance to be a little bit silly in Off Topic. To many of us, Off Topic is our playroom, and you need not take part if you only want more technical material found elsewhere.

But I understand what you mean. After being in this kind of community the newbie posts get a bit tedious. However, just remember that you once were new here and probably posted something that had been discussed ad-nauseum previously. Help them out by linking their post to the original thread and then you will be pleased to see the annoying repetitive post disappear from the bottom of the screen never to be seen again!

Just be patient with the newbies and sift through the rest of the posts for the goodies.

This place is nowhere near as big as VW Vortex or similar sites, but it is a top notch community that I am proud to be active in.

But I feel your pain, I do!

I agree on both side of the fence. So you pick and choose what you want to read and skim over the rest

Yeah, I have stopped running the PULSE as well for similar reasons. I also noticed that i didn't visit entire forums any longer and thus was missing out on things that weren't in the top 15.

I think this site generally finds a good middle ground between hardcore technogeek car stuff and mindless babbling about Anna Nicole Smith. Most people here probably don't read the stuff at either of those extremes, and find a way to get what they want from the community here.

I agree with wwweb and DiD - it doesn't help to run the pulse, or to pay attention to the 5 most recent topics. They're often not what you're looking for and it can get frustrating seeing some of the crap that flies around here. Stick to the forums that contain real discussion about the car, if that's what you want. Of course, this does usually mean sorting through several pages of "MINI Talk" sometimes; the fluff factor seems to vary from week to week.

I think the moderators here generally do a great job of moving threads from inappropriate areas, and keeping things in order as much as possible with such an unwieldy horde of members.

If there is something that you don't have any interest in, noone is forcing you to read it. I browse in pretty much every forum on this site and if I have something that I want to add, I add it. Sometimes certain threads can get a little played out, but if I don't feel like dealing with it, I don't go there.

If you are annoyed just stick to forums like Beneath the Bonnet and Mods or sometimes helpful stuff can pop up on MINI Talk. Off Topic is where most of the fluff is, which is why it's Off Topic.

Cheers!

I strongly agree with your point about helping out the newbies by linking past threads. (I wish the Search function were a little more intuitive/easy to find for the newbies, but....) I was getting a little "burned out" re-reading a lot of the same topics over and over, but I have made it a personal little challenge to try and help link those kinds of threads - it keeps me interested!

One other thing that has helped me immensely is subscribing to the forums that I want to be involved with. I get the posts as email and can sift through them much more quickly than I can on the site. I use Outlook, so I set up a rule that funnels all of the MCO email to its own folder and I only come to the forum when I want to reply. It saves me a LOT of time, and I stay on top of most of the messages.

So, I've substantially eliminated the "bug me" factor by not sitting on the site waiting for good threads. Instead I just have "power sessions" in my inbox to pick out the stuff that interests me! Might not work for everyone, but I like it!

What's the third site? I'm familiar with MINI2 and, of course, MCO. I don't know of a decent third site.

Solution: Go to MINI2.com

Notice how NoBull60 started this thread? See how he hasn't been back? I wonder his motive for making this post in the first place (venting, I think not)? Was it to stop the fluff (which I think is quite fun and really gives this place a family type of feeling...I'd have any MCO member over for dinner becuase of the camaraderie I see here!)?

I agree with Dominic... If you don't want to deal will all the off-topic banter, don't read the off-topic forum. I happen to think that the presence of an off-topic forum is instrumental in bringing us closer together as a community.
I know I'm going to LOVE my MINI when she arrives. I know I'm going to have tons of questions (most of which will have already been answered on here just by searching older posts). I happen to enjoy getting to know everyone on a more personal basis. For as much as I've been obsessing, there's more to me than my MINI.

I think that he's just having a bad day. He posted last week that MCO was the greatest ever.
Don't despair over a good post that goes unnoticed. People still read them, but not always reply. For example, ME. I have no clue about any technical stuff, so I read it but don't reply. I wouldn't know what to say

In fact, last week he posted this very, very tech-related topic:

Below 32 in SoFlo???

Wow! the "Hollier than thou" posts here are amazing. Dare no one talk anything negative about MCO or fear getting shot!

Pluuuhzee!

Face it, MCO is not what it used to be 6 to 8 months ago. Too many lose "teens" in here and the overall quality of the topics has deteriorated steadely over the past few months.

The "other guys" still seem to have better info all over the map.

Take it as constructive criticism.
