It's obvious that this person wants to prevent damage to his car - which, for most of us is the second biggest investment we make in our lives. Maybe YOU don't care about dirt, scratches, dings, rust or whatnot, but the majority if people on here care about maintaining their cars (visit the detailing forum if you have any doubts.) This does NOT mean that they don't care about the people along the Gulf Coast, it just means someone asked if anyone knew how to keep a cat off of their car - nothing more, nothing less. For all you know, Kaelaria has been volunteering in Biloxi or donating cash out the wazoo. Please don't attack someone just because they want to try and protect their investment.
Thanks.
Easy there......
Yes, i do care about my car, too. Just reminding folks that there's a lot more important things in life than a car. Yes, even a precious Mini! Oh my god!! I said it!!
Relax.

Here are some bad ideas that I came up with while losing sleep about your cat problem. Actually I am just procrastinating at work.
#1. I have heard that is is possible to hook your car battery up to your antenna when parked to prevent antenna theft, can it be hooked to the hood to shock the cat? Probably a bad idea.
#2. Go buy a cheap drop cloth/tarp of some sort, lots of cheap adhesive, and a few large boxes of thumbtacks. Cover the cloth with the adhesive and dump on the thumbtacks. Poor kitty's paws wont like it.
#3. Go buy a cheap drop cloth and a large roll of double sided tape. Stick on a strip every foot. Cats hate sticky floors. Especially when you attach the tape to their paws and watch them walk around.
#4. Chain a doberman to your car at night. Maybe not.
More to come I am sure...

That was my solution, exept the Airsoft gun I own shoots 600 Feet per second.
Poor thing never saw it coming, the cat actually levitated off the hood and just crashed in the fence.
Never came back since.

kaelaria will have the first cracked sunroof.
I have three cats with enormous claws for mouse control in the barn. Darned things used to lay on top of the car all the time, especially in winter when they expressed a fondness for the warmth of the engine. Drove me nuts!
Then I bought a motion and heat triggered ultra-sonic repeller called a Cat Stop. When it detects motion of a warm object it emits a 3 second blast of 135dB sound. Humans and dogs can't hear it, but it drives cats nuts! Mounted it on a post at sunroof height. The first couple of times the cats jumped up there they did absolute backflips trying to get away. And yes, it left minor scratches as they attempted to reach low earth orbit. But they have NEVER tried to rest on the car since. It's like the car has become something incredibly wicked to avoid at all costs.
And I'm happy again. Pete

Yes that does look like the best option - I'm thinking of just putting it in the ground in front of the car - it always jumps up and down from the hood, so just walking up to the car should trip it right? Might be entertaining anyway
A cheap method would be to go to your local Wall Mart or other store that sells hunting gear. Buy a small jar, $3 or so, of Fox pee cover scent. Yes, it is real fox pee. Hunters use it to mask their own human scent. Spray it around the car on the ground. You don't need to overdo it. A little of the stuff goes a long way. The cat will be afraid of the fox (a predator) and shouldn't go near the car. Be sure not to get any of the stuff on yourself. It isn't toxic or anything, but it smells really bad.
