R50/53 Cat on Car - Ready to shoot it!
I think I'll go to walmart tonight, see if they have any kind of repellant - or petsmart...and just dump it all around the cars. They love to sleep under them too - I want to try to get them away from the area completely. Maybe they sell it in 5gal buckets
LOL!!! I have to laugh - sorry - I know scratches from kitties are not funny. I am a complete cat lover and have found MANY a muddy paw print on our cars from our own cats.
And to date, have yet to find a really GOOD deterant other than water. But if you scare them or freak them out, that's when the claws come out!!

The car cover wont do anything for the cats claws. I tried that and as the cat makes the jump, slips on the cover out come the claws for traction, and on come the scratches. I finally put the car in the garage. Now I'm batteling my lazy *** neighbor that lets Fido poop in my front yard. Critter ridder might be my next purchase. Good luck

I'm glad people are keeping this in perspective. Yes, your car is important, but you don't want to kill the poor cat. It simply doesn't understand YET that your cat is off limits.
Go down to Petsmart or Petco and talk to them. They usually carry a bunch of sprays to keep cats away. I'd probably put a plastic garbage bag on the car's hood and then put a towel sprayed with repellent over it so it doesn't get to the paint. One on the hood and one on the roof should do it.
I had a cat that always slept on the hood of my Bimmer. I hit the alarm button one day and the cat ran off. Never sat on my hood again.

P.S. - One friend of a friend was trying to keep stray animals out of his yard. He went out one night and peed around the perimeter. No more animal problem..

I feel your pain. The other day the neighbor's cat THREW UP on my (covered, thankfully) miata. I was about to ring our cat's neck when I found, uh, identifying particles exonerating him.
You might try a Scat Mat - about $50, but your sanity may be worth it. Petsmart sells them, but you can get them cheaper online.
I tried some smelly stuff that was supposed to deter them (smelled like really strong garlic.) Just after I sprayed it across the driveway my cat walked right over it.
There are also sonic devices, but I've never used one.
An outdoor cat? At an APARTMENT? So it's your cat then. Do what you will.
Spunky - I'll remember to tell you that if your car gets keyed. Cats jumping on cars are just that - little key marks all over.

Maybe turn it down to 20K volts? On another tack, check local laws about responsibilities of pet owners. If she's liable for any damages the pet causes, get a pic of the cat on the car, and take her to small claims court for the price of repainting your hood!
I see the repellant sprays are Methyl nonyl ketone and only good for 24 hours - and also listed as 'harmful to humans, do not allow contact with skin'. No thanks on putting that near my paint. $13 a spray bottle.
I see the electric scat-mats, not for outdoor use. $60+
I see the catstop ultrasonic alarm. Stakes in the ground, good for a 20' area. $53, might be worth it. I would only be concerned with someone stealing it overnight.

I agree, an outdoor cat at an apartment is annoying. We had one here that would whine outside our window all night and chose to take a *#@! on our doorstep EVERY night. We scrubbed the step with strong bleach water, and that only worked for two nights. Finally found the owner and they took care of it. Thank God a responsible pet owner. That owner's cat that you are dealing with is irresponsible and RUDE.
No care for other people's property (car or not) makes me so angry. I can only hope for karma to bite them in the @ss.

worse than scratches
I had a car get on a black car I had once; the cat's prints etched down into the clear coat, and I had to have the prints buffed out by a pro. I trapped the beasts and took to them to the pound.
Also, I'd tell the owner I was going to call animal control regardless of wether there was a law or not.
It that doesn't work, call the Department Of Homeland Securtity - the cat's probablly a democrat.

Try one of these on the roof. http://www.multivet-inter.com/eng/pr...at/ssscat.html
It's a motion detecting cat repellent. When it detects motion it'll make a noise then let of a spray of air.

This is really simple and FREE and I mentioned it earlier.
The non-lethal trap - usually provided as a free loaner from animal control or the SPCA - is a very viable alternative to your problem, especially if your area has pet ordnances against free roaming pets. Set the trap next to the car with an open can of food or tuna in it. Cat goes in and trap closes. You take trapped cat to where you got the trap from. If the Cat owner wants their cat they will go and pick it up. If not it has a good chance of adoption with a person or family who will really care for it. Petsmart has an excellent adoption program. If neither of those things happen then the cat will be euthanized in a very humane way and this keeps you from breaking any cruelty to animals laws, and you don't have to spend any money.
