also, I think it helps, if it is not too hot out, to drive with the windows closed and have the vents blowing ( AC off )

I went from a 175 width (15x5.5 rim) and 31 mpg to 205 width (16x7 rim) and 28 mpg. In addition to the added rolling resistance, I added about 40 extra pounds in weight, mostly rubber.
It's a bit strange to read an "anti-performance" thread here on NAM. Driving the S or JCW like an ol' lady (not that there's anything wrong with that  ). Won't the car (ECU) learn the new economic driving style and lose a bit of performance? Is everyone gonna trade in their nice big rims and wide rubber for some skinny holey wheels.

Yes the ECU over several hundred miles will adapt slightly. The overall hit is very small, as is the gain going the other way. The learning curve is often over-hyped and barely felt, if at all.

I think you're missing the point of a hybrid. I've never been under the impression that the monetary savings from reduced fuel consumption was the prime motivation to purchase one. I've always thought that you were paying a premium for the opportunity to leave a smaller footprint on your environment. Even if it is only slightly smaller.

That's good to know... maybe I'll go for a PR in mpg on my next fill-up!

"Economy" is the key word in this thread. Nothing is one way all the time. I drive a JCW - and not shyly. I've learned I can pass most anything any time so am trying saomething new for fun and profit: Fuel economy. I'm finding most times there is no need to dump gas out the tailpipe. SO, it works to try for that 29mpg tally for the full tank, and have enough fuel efficiency "goodie points" to kick 'er in the *** when I need to get going or want a thrill.
PS Kaleria - thanks for the tip on throttle position. I'll try to pay attnetion to that this week.

ok since i know im gonna get beat by skeptics here ill post anyway,

my mini is another hige milage mini and its gas milage if read from the tack my ampg is 39.8 mpg city, i have leaned how to drive the car and shift just right to achive this, coasting when i can now hige way the readout reads 45 to 48 and can make it hold when i dont go over 60, live in michigan its pretty flat here

now many people in my club dont balive this car gets this milage but on last fill up i reset my trip and took note to my milage and the amount of gallons i pute in, after driving a bit my range milage said 632 miles on it witch has droped ofcorse but the miles i have aquired is over 106 miles so far and the gas guage reads so far a little more than half on the three quarters full witch i think is pretty amazing

and no the gauge aint broke!!

now if i drive normall i get the usual 24 to 27 mpg but like i said i know their are alot of people who wont balive this but just like their are minis who get abnormal hp ratings while others are dogs maby mines is just a little better on gas

funny anyhow
oh yes i am running lighter wheels and tires that have a low rolling resistance so that has had a signifacant affect of gas as well

I'm not sceptical of your report...but I can tell you right now that your computer is giving you very optimistic results OR your definition of 'city' is not what everyone else's is City means stop and go, light to light - not crusing for miles.

I don't care how light you are on the gas, a MCS is not going to get 40MPG city.

I can get that on the highway very easily though.

city for me is like woodward and such witch their is 3 to 4 lights a mile sometimes but they are timed right so the start and go is not to bad so as far as driving around town thats what im getting but i also very much agree with you about the optimistic claims

ive always felt that

but anyhow i will post what my end tank gets just so i know exzacley how much this new driving saves me versus how i usually drive

im just thinking with my milage being over 100,000 miles that theirs less rolling resistence in the engine witch means with the less friction better milage, just a thought!
