Hi Everyone!
I was just doing my hourly surfing the Net for all things MINI, when I came across the following thread on MINI2...

TOPIC - There's a Reason Why MINI2 is #1

As someone who hangs out more on MCO than on MINI2, I had to put my 2 cents in. Can't we all just get along???

Nice response, Tony.

You did us proud!

The truth is there is MUCH more personality on MCO!

What's the big deal? I posted there too. It's not that anyone isn't getting along, we all just have our preferences. Most of us cruise the three boards and gain useful information from all. I think it was here on MCO a couple of weeks ago that a thread pretty much ripped mini2 a new orifice. Nothing wrong with ranking and critiqueing as long as we do it maturely and without malice.

Peace.

Yeah, I saw that too. I spend time on both sites and think that the variety of topics and turnover is actually higher here. There just seems to be more action. But I enjoy the inter-continental flavor of MINI2.

I hadn't heard of the 3rd site, have to give it a shot.

Hmmmmm... I actually find MCO waaaaay easier to navigate than MINI2! And while I enjoy reading MINI2 and like its international flavor, I feel that MCO is the most well-rounded of the "Big" 3...tee hee! Roadfly has the least appealing format, but moves fast and has a great Off-Topic Lounge made up of many good friends of mine!

Cheers!

Each site has its own personality. Some of the people here tend to be much more defensive whenever someone has an alternative opinion. I've actually stopped reading posts by some of this site's members, and have found that I like the place much better for it. Most of the people on this board are very nice, but there are a few that seem like all they want to do is jump other people for having a different opinion.

As far as the forum software is concerned, there are some features that I like over on MINI2 which would be cool to see here. The ability to turn off signatures is a good one that I enjoy over there. I don't like seeing the very large sigs that some people have on every post, and was thrilled that I could turn them off on MINI2.

I also like the ability to search only for new posts. That's nice. Otherwise, they're pretty much on par. Both have tons of good information, and I've learned an incredible amount from some of the very knowledgable people that post regularly on both forums.

Roadfly's forum software is awful. It's so distracting that I just don't end up spending much time there at all. I check it infrequently, at best. Most of the information on Roadfly is duplicated on either MCO or MINI2, from what I've seen.

Grinder, this thread and the one on MINI2 that was linked above, seem to be a bit calmer than the one a month ago...we CAN all get along, and it's good to have the variety. Diversity rules!

My personal preference is MCO, but I do have to agree with the remark someone made about the font size. It is really tough on this old man's eyes! After spending a long time on here reading posts I definitly have eye fatique. This is not intended as a put down just constructive critisism. The only other thing I would wish for is a spelling chekker.

Mini2 also has an edit button. So if you find an error in your post you can go back and fix it. I have not been able to find anything like that on MCO. If edit feature is on MCO can someone tell me were I can find it?

Hmmm ..... I didn't know there was an edit option either!

By the way, I'm on MINI2, MCO, Roadfly, as well as three yahoo groups. They all have plusses and minuses.

I think I need a life!!

The attitude and atmosphere is so much better here than on MINI2. Here you outwardly joke someone and they know it is a joke! On MINI2, they insult another member or another country and then say "it was a joke, can't you take a joke" ... but the post didn't read like a joke, it read like an attack. Here on MCO a Joke is a Joke!

Here on MCO you are a real person. Young or old, you matter and are treated great. Everyone says what they think and everyone agrees that we can disagree!

ON MCO I've never seen a moderator have to make a post - on MINI2 I read Moderator's posts every day and would wonder, why is this person saying they have already removed several posts and will remove the whole thread if they have to ... and then *light bulb* I realize that there had been such terrible posts that this is the moderator speaking!

I read the MINI2 for about 3 weeks (one of those weeks I was on vacation so I read it off and on all day) and 3 weeks is enought for me. I do not like forums that cater to High School kids, unleashing them on the unsuspecting world. They hit MINI2 each day after school and stay all night insulting anyone who works for a living and has paid their own way. Telling "old" people to get off the forum and stay off! It's quite shocking what they write to each other!

May I add that here on MCO, we have High School kids too, they're responsible and have great personalities. You don't see the big chip on their shoulder!

I'm a high school kid. I didn't pay a cent for my car. Does that mean that I'm not welcome here??

Seriously, I think you've bad a bad experience on MINI2 and just happened in on the *wrong* threads. There was one thread that I can remember that got into a discussion about young people and how they afforded their MINIs. That thread got quite insulting from both the perspective of the older and younger folks. I'm not going to try and argue any blame here, because that's not the issue...but the point is that with that one thread aside, the other threads are not dominated by b*tchy high schoolers who yell at the adults. I think you should give it another shot. It's got a wealth of knowledge, really! As everyone's already said, all the boards are great for one reason or another.

They are both excellent and each offer their unique contribution. For instance, I prefer MCO's ability to email me new posts, but sometimes because of the international nature of MINI2, we get news sooner on changes across the water.

For instance, this was just posted, today:

Thought you would like to know; as from March there will be some new options:

- Chrome mirrors can be ordered from factory

- Cooper S can be ordered with chrome grill

- A new console with armrest (at last !) with/without a phone holder for various mobile phones. (191 euros)
Available in black or silver. I saw a picture of it.
I'm not sure if it had storage space as well, but it didn't look like it had.

That's music to my ears, and even if we in the US don't get these options, I can get part numbers and order it myself.

Just a thought.

See ya,
JS
