Another reason MINIs rule

This Morning:

Filling up the gas tank of a Hummer - $93.12
Filling up the gas tank of an Expedition - $75.66
Filling up the gas tank of a MINI Cooper - $37.83

But that was this morning. As of 6:00 p.m., the prices were as follows:

Hummer - $95.68
Expedition - $77.74
MINI Cooper - $38.87

But wait! By Friday, the cost of gas is expected to be an additional 25 cents per gallon:

Hummer - $103.68
Expedition - $84.24
MINI Cooper - $42.12

OUCH!

Are you people in Kalifornia already paying $3.51 per gallon?

The highest I have seen here us $2.87 per Gallon (Premium 93 octane).

!Jack Alert! (apologies)

Sorry to pick on this, but I see you wrote Cooper MINI, not only once but TWICE! I certainly hope this is not the way you speak! You don't say Diablo Lamborghini, Passat Volkswagen, or Malibu Chevy do you?

...I gotta go find that Pet Peeve thread.

Back to our regularly scheduled SUV bashing....

When gas was just under $2 (it never topped that when i owned it) i NEVER spent more than $20 to fill a tank in my miata with premium.

But the mini holds a couple more gallons than the miata did, with about 6-7 more mpg, but the price has gone up. I guess it works out?

Not sure thats a good idea here, diesel is $3.35 a gallon and 91 octane is $3.09 a gallon. Diesel is suppose to be the cheaper one

Well,

there is a reason for that, they do not want you to buy diesel cars. But, one thing you need to understand, you might pay a little more initially, but it lasts twice longer, not to mention about the life of the motor. People think it is an expensive option, but before we had a TDI Jetta, and what-a-car, DIESELS rock, if they brought one I will be all over it.

I just walked by my coworkers office as she was explaining to her boss how much she's hurting paying to fill up gas in her Vue. 340$ a month, give or take. I'm paying about 100$ with about the same commute.

I told her long ago she needed a MINI, now she's starting to understand why.

"But i bought the Vue becasue it's safe. Er. Safer than a smaller car, but i can't afford the gas" i told her that's good, i'd love to see less SUV's hogging the road and blocking my view all over the place. Everyone needs a MINI. She said Saturn will buy back her car for market value, and she can get the employee discount on another car... "but the Ion gets awful consumer reports reviews" i said i thought the MINI got crappy ones, but look how many people obsess over them. And she never sees anything but a smile on my face everytime i think about/talk about/walk away from/to my mini :P

They're slowly catching on.

In NY I have been paying at least $2.90 a gallon for a few weeks now however always makes me smirk a bit when I see a large SUV filling up at the gas station along side of me.

I have heard rumors that gas prices are gonna get only higher int he next few days as some refineries had to shut down because of the hurricane. Oh great

I'll be happy with the gas prices as long as it's cheaper that it was in England.

$3 is a bargain for me considering it's over $7/gal there.

It's not going to matter much to those who have them. ...

News this morning was saying gas would go to $4 cause of Katrina but it won't matter because people gotta go where people gotta go.

Just as your currently used to gas at say $2.35/gal, you will be used to gas at $3.35/gal ... and so forth.

I mean, can't you remember when gas was 28 cents/gal? Could you ever imagine paying $1.73?

Same principle ... you will get used to it

And yet another reason why Cooper Mini's rule (sorry ), if you do run out of gas, they are much easier to push than that Hummer or Expedition. And I bet people would be much more willing to help push a Mini than either of those other boats.

Unfortunately, the salaries of 90% of the population can't keep up with the rising gas prices. Sure people have to go where they have to go, but it will hurt big time on each trip back to the gas station.

Great post. when I picked up my Mini today there was a guy trading in his Navigator, he said he was going to get a hard top, but he would ahve to wait for it, so he bought a convertable so he could afford gas.

I could only imaging our Braddas and Sistas from the Islands of HAWAII, on how much they are paying for premium.

I'm just repeating what I heard on the radio this morning (because of Katrina). The bottom line is that for the people who can afford the large SUV (which aint cheap) or whatever, they don't really care. For the people, maybe the middle class, where it will hurt, they will just suck it up and take it. They have no choice.

Oh, they might not go down to the beach every weekend, maybe twice a month instead. Or, they will drop some other luxary but they are NOT going to drop driving. They will get used to the prices.

If you really can't afford the $4 gas ... well they said it would create a class distinction which has always existed anyway.

One suggestion is to drop the federal gas tax ... no way, Congress is used to the money.

Another suggestion, depending upon your state, is too temporarily drop the state gas tax. Our state has a $1B surplus. Won't happen either.

In the end, the price will continue to rise (going up and down in the usual cycles) but it will hit $4, $5, whatever up and up. Just like it ain't 28 cents anymore And, you will pay it and be used to it (or, I guess, Your walking)
